Michelin Launches X Multi Energy Z2 Truck Tyre in India, Promises Up to 13% Fuel Savings
Bengaluru, India, October 30, 2026: Michelin has strengthened its commercial vehicle tyre portfolio in India with the launch of the MICHELIN X Multi Energy Z2, a new-generation truck and bus tyre developed specifically for Indian operating conditions and tested on Indian highways.
Designed to address the evolving requirements of fleet operators, the new tyre combines fuel efficiency, extended tyre life and enhanced robustness. Michelin says these improvements can help lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), improve fleet productivity and increase profitability.
Fuel accounts for approximately 50% of a fleet’s overall operating expenditure, making fuel efficiency a critical factor in managing costs. The MICHELIN X Multi Energy Z2 promises up to 6% fuel savings in the 295/80R22.5 tubeless dimension and up to 13% in the 295/90R20 tube-type dimension compared to leading competitors.
According to Michelin, these savings could improve overall fleet margins by up to 3% while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by as much as eight tonnes.
Up to 25% longer tyre life and improved durability
Apart from fuel efficiency, Michelin has focused on improving tyre longevity and durability with the X Multi Energy Z2. The company claims the new tyre delivers up to 25% longer tyre life compared to the nearest competition in the same size.
This is made possible by its innovative Carbion blend, which creates a stronger and more consistent tread compound, helping extend tyre life and reduce replacement costs.
The tyre also offers 11% better summit strength compared to leading competitors, according to Michelin’s internal testing. The improved strength is intended to minimise tyre-related downtime and help commercial vehicle operators maintain higher fleet utilisation.
Improved handling and safety
Michelin has also incorporated its patented InfiniCoil technology into the X Multi Energy Z2. The technology optimises the tyre’s contact patch and enhances stability throughout its lifespan.
In the 295/80R22.5 dimension, the tyre offers a footprint area that is up to 5% larger than leading competitors in the same size. This is designed to improve grip and traction, while also delivering better handling in wet and dry conditions.
Michelin focuses on sustainable commercial mobility
The launch also underlines Michelin’s focus on reducing the environmental impact of commercial transportation. The company’s Made-in-India truck tyres are designed to deliver lower rolling resistance and improved energy efficiency, helping fleet operators reduce fuel consumption and associated emissions.
The MICHELIN X Multi Energy Z2 is manufactured at the company’s Chennai facility and incorporates up to 30% recyclable materials. Michelin describes the Chennai plant as one of its greenest manufacturing facilities, operating with a zero-carbon footprint and sourcing nearly 45% of its energy requirements from renewable sources.
The company is also expanding its tyre management, monitoring and fleet management services to help operators improve maintenance planning, monitor performance and minimise vehicle downtime as commercial transportation becomes increasingly digitised.
Michelin X Multi Energy Z2: Availability in India
Commenting on the launch, Shantanu Deshpande, Managing Director, Michelin India, said that fleet owners are increasingly looking beyond the initial purchase price of a tyre and evaluating its overall value throughout its operating life.
He said the MICHELIN X Multi Energy Z2 has been developed for Indian highways, combining fuel efficiency, longer tyre life and improved robustness to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership.
With up to 13% fuel savings, 25% higher tyre life and 11% better summit strength, the new tyre is designed to help fleet operators optimise operating expenditure, improve productivity and strengthen margins.
The MICHELIN X Multi Energy Z2 will be available through Michelin Tyres & Service stores and approximately 300 authorised dealers across India.
The launch further strengthens Michelin’s presence in India’s commercial vehicle tyre segment, with the company looking to address the growing demand for products that combine operational efficiency, durability and sustainable mobility.
