Tata Motors Upgrades Dharwad Plant with New Paint Shop, BIW and E-Axle Assembly Lines

Bengaluru, India, October 21, 2026: Tata Motors has strengthened its commercial vehicle manufacturing capabilities at its Dharwad plant in Karnataka with the inauguration of a new-generation paint shop and the commissioning of new Body-in-White (BIW) and E-Axle assembly lines. The new facilities are designed to improve manufacturing flexibility, efficiency and readiness for both conventional and zero-emission commercial vehicles.

The facilities were inaugurated by Girish Wagh, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Ltd., in the presence of Vishal Badshah, Vice President and Head – Operations, and DP Nambiar, Chief Human Resources Officer.

The latest upgrades mark another step in the development of the Dharwad facility as a multi-product manufacturing hub, enabling the company to respond more effectively to changing product requirements and customer demand.

Tata Motors Dharwad Plant Gets New-Generation Manufacturing Facilities

The new paint shop features a modular design and scalable infrastructure, allowing the plant to adapt to evolving manufacturing requirements. According to Tata Motors, the facility will support cleaner, more efficient and digitally enabled manufacturing while strengthening quality and operational flexibility.

The new Body-in-White assembly line adds to the plant’s vehicle body manufacturing capabilities, while the E-Axle assembly line strengthens its readiness for electric commercial vehicle production.

Together, these facilities are intended to enhance the Dharwad plant’s ability to manufacture vehicles across multiple product categories and powertrains within the same integrated campus.

Vishal Badash, Vice President and Head – Operations at Tata Motors Ltd., said the plant had evolved into one of the company’s most versatile manufacturing facilities, producing conventional and zero-emission vehicles on the same campus.

He added that the new capabilities would improve manufacturing flexibility and efficiency while supporting the company’s evolving product and customer requirements. Badash also acknowledged the Government of Karnataka for its continued support and reiterated Tata Motors’ commitment to the state’s industrial growth through advanced and sustainable manufacturing.

Vijay Battu, Senior General Manager and Plant Head – Dharwad at Tata Motors Ltd., said the commissioning of the paint shop, BIW and E-Axle assembly lines represented a significant technical and operational advancement for the facility.

He noted that the paint shop’s modular architecture would help the plant respond more quickly to changing business needs while improving quality, efficiency and sustainability benchmarks.

Tata Motors Strengthens Workplace Inclusion at Dharwad

Alongside the manufacturing upgrades, Tata Motors inaugurated an on-site crèche for employees’ children at the Dharwad plant. The initiative supports the facility’s focus on workplace inclusion, particularly as women account for more than 30% of its young and skilled shopfloor workforce.

The Dharwad facility is also the first manufacturing plant in India to achieve ISO 30415 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) validation, according to the company.

Its sustainability initiatives include operating on 100% renewable electricity, along with Water Positive and Zero Waste to Landfill certifications. These measures form part of the plant’s wider focus on sustainable operations and globally competitive manufacturing.

Tata Motors Dharwad Plant: From Single-Product Facility to Multi-Product Hub

Since rolling out its first commercial vehicle in 2012, the Dharwad plant has grown from a single-product facility into a multi-product manufacturing hub spread across an integrated campus of approximately 650 acres.

The facility manufactures a broad range of commercial vehicles, including Small Commercial Vehicles (SCVs), Intermediate, Light and Medium Commercial Vehicles (ILMCVs), Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCVs) and commercial passenger vehicles across multiple powertrains.

The plant also supports a network of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and suppliers across North Karnataka, contributing to the region’s industrial ecosystem.

With the latest paint shop, BIW and E-Axle assembly investments, Tata Motors is strengthening the Dharwad plant’s manufacturing capabilities while aligning its operations with the changing requirements of conventional and electric commercial vehicles.
