Toprak Razgatlioglu to Miss Remainder of 2026 MotoGP Season After Shoulder Surgery
Phillip Island, Australia, October 20, 2026: Toprak Razgatlioglu will miss the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island and the remaining rounds of the 2026 MotoGP World Championship after being ruled out with a shoulder injury sustained in a highside crash at the Indonesian Grand Prix in Mandalika. The Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP rider is scheduled to undergo surgery in Milan on October 26.
Razgatlioglu travelled to Milan for further medical examinations following the crash, with the latest assessments confirming that his shoulder injury requires surgical treatment to ensure the best possible recovery. The Turkish rider will now focus on rehabilitation, with his return to racing dependent on his recovery.
The injury is a setback for Razgatlioglu, who has been working to adapt to Yamaha’s YZR-M1 as he continues his transition from the World Superbike Championship to MotoGP.
Augusto Fernandez to Replace Razgatlioglu at Prima Pramac Yamaha
Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez is expected to replace Razgatlioglu for the upcoming races, beginning with the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. Fernandez is familiar with the YZR-M1 and will remain with the team until Razgatlioglu is ready to return.
Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP team director Gino Borsoi expressed disappointment at the injury, acknowledging how much Razgatlioglu had been looking forward to racing at Phillip Island and continuing his development in MotoGP.
Borsoi said the team would support the Turkish rider throughout his recovery, while welcoming Fernandez as his replacement for the upcoming events.
The team hopes to make the most of the opportunity with Fernandez while prioritising Razgatlioglu’s health and long-term recovery.
Razgatlioglu Disappointed to Miss Phillip Island
Razgatlioglu admitted that missing the Australian Grand Prix was particularly difficult, given his fondness for Phillip Island and the memorable moments he experienced at the circuit during his World Superbike career.
The rider had been looking forward to racing at the venue on a MotoGP motorcycle. However, further medical examinations revealed that his shoulder injury was more serious than initially expected.
After consulting doctors and those closest to him, Razgatlioglu agreed that surgery was the right decision to maximise his chances of making a full recovery and returning to competition at 100 per cent fitness.
The Turkish rider also wished Jack Miller well for his home Grand Prix, noting the special significance of racing in front of a home crowd. With Phillip Island hosting its final MotoGP event, Razgatlioglu said he would be cheering for Miller and the team from afar.
Focus Shifts to Recovery
Razgatlioglu’s immediate priority will be surgery and rehabilitation, with no confirmed return date announced in the team statement. His absence means he will miss the Australian Grand Prix and the remaining rounds of the 2026 MotoGP season.
For Prima Pramac Yamaha, Fernandez’s replacement role will provide continuity as the team navigates the final races of the campaign. Meanwhile, Razgatlioglu will concentrate on recovering fully before returning to the track.
