Hyundai Motor Group Announces $15.5 Billion Investment in India Through 2032
New Delhi, India, October 13, 2026: Hyundai Motor Group has announced a USD 15.5 billion investment in India between 2026 and 2032, reinforcing the country’s position as a strategic market for manufacturing expansion, automotive research and development, and future mobility technologies.
The investment strategy was discussed during a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung at the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi on October 13.
The seven-year investment programme will focus on expanding manufacturing capacity, developing research and development (R&D) infrastructure, strengthening local supplier networks and supporting next-generation automotive technologies. Hyundai Motor Group also plans to establish a dedicated investment entity in India to coordinate projects, identify local partners and facilitate strategic collaborations.
“India remains one of Hyundai Motor Group’s most important and strategic markets globally,” Chung said, adding that the investment reaffirms the Group’s commitment to India for the next 30 years and beyond.
Hyundai and Kia to Expand Manufacturing Capacity
A key focus of the investment will be expanding manufacturing operations at Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) and Kia India to support future demand and increase localisation. The Group also aims to strengthen India’s role as a global vehicle export hub.
Hyundai Motor Group currently has annual vehicle production capacity exceeding 1.4 million units across its Indian operations. This includes 824,000 units at Hyundai’s Chennai facilities, 170,000 units at its Pune manufacturing facility and 431,000 units at Kia India’s Anantapur plant.
The Group plans to scale up Pune’s manufacturing capacity in phases, further strengthening its production footprint in the country.
$700 Million Planned for R&D Infrastructure
Research and development will be another major pillar of the investment strategy. Hyundai Motor Group plans to invest approximately USD 700 million in its Indian R&D centre, including a vehicle testing track, to accelerate next-generation automotive technology development.
The initiative will also focus on developing local engineering talent and strengthening India’s position as a key innovation hub for the Group.
Alongside R&D expansion, Hyundai Motor Group will work with regional suppliers to improve parts localisation and build a more resilient automotive supply chain.
Focus on EV Charging, Startups and Future Mobility
The investment programme will extend beyond conventional vehicle manufacturing. Hyundai Motor Group plans to support promising startups, explore new mobility services and evaluate opportunities in specialised automotive financing, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and end-of-life vehicle recycling.
These initiatives are intended to broaden the Group’s presence across India’s evolving automotive and mobility ecosystem.
Investment Expected to Generate Employment
Hyundai Motor Group employs more than 24,000 people in India. The new investment is expected to create additional employment opportunities in manufacturing, engineering, R&D and supply chain operations, while supporting jobs across supplier networks and emerging mobility businesses.
The Group’s Indian operations also include affiliates such as Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Transys, Hyundai Capital, Hyundai Wia and Hyundai Glovis.
Beyond business expansion, Hyundai Motor Group highlighted its social initiatives, including the Samarth disability-inclusion campaign and plans for the Hyundai Academy for Technical Skills (HATS) vocational training institute in Chennai. Its major affiliates have cumulatively contributed approximately USD 110 million to social welfare, education, skill development and community programmes in India since 2016.
With the USD 15.5 billion commitment, Hyundai Motor Group aims to strengthen its manufacturing and technology capabilities while positioning India as a major base for future growth and global automotive exports.
