WorldSBK 2026: Nicolo Bulega Targets More Records at Jerez Season Finale

Jerez, Spain, October 13, 2026: The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship heads to the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto for the 2026 season finale from October 16 to 18, with Nicolo Bulega looking to add to his record-breaking campaign after securing the WorldSBK title.

The Aruba.it Racing – Ducati rider arrives in Spain with 664 points, having set a new record for the most points scored in a single WorldSBK season. While the championship has already been decided, Bulega has further milestones within reach as he looks to finish the year on a high.

His Ducati teammate Iker Lecuona has secured second place in the championship with 518 points, confirming a one-two finish for the team in the riders’ standings.

The fight for third place, however, remains open heading into the final three races of the season, with Yari Montella and Alex Lowes separated by 53 points and 62 points still available at Jerez.

Nicolo Bulega Targets WorldSBK Records at Jerez

Despite wrapping up the championship at Cremona, Bulega has two significant records in sight at the Spanish circuit.

The Italian is one podium finish away from matching Jonathan Rea’s record of 34 podiums in a single WorldSBK season, established in 2019. A podium at Jerez would see Bulega draw level with the six-time world champion’s benchmark.

Bulega could also surpass Rea’s record of 48 consecutive races scoring points. To achieve that milestone, the Ducati rider must finish in the points in all three races at Jerez.

With the title secured and the pressure of the championship battle removed, Bulega will have the opportunity to end his dominant campaign with another record-setting performance.

WorldSBK Battle for Third Place Goes Down to Jerez

While the top two positions are settled, third place in the overall standings remains one of the main talking points heading into the season finale.

Yari Montella of the Barni Spark Racing Team has already clinched the Independent Riders’ title and occupies third overall with 290 points. He holds a 53-point advantage over Alex Lowes of the bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team.

Lowes remains mathematically in contention for third, with 62 points available across the three races at Jerez. However, the British rider must also defend fourth place from his brother Sam Lowes, who represents the ELF Marc VDS Racing Team and sits fifth, just 12 points behind.

The final weekend will therefore be important for both riders as they look to secure their positions in the championship standings.

Spanish Riders Look for Strong Home Results

Jerez will also provide a home stage for Spanish riders Iker Lecuona, Alvaro Bautista and Xavi Vierge.

Lecuona is the highest-placed Spanish rider in the championship, having secured second overall with 518 points in his first season with Aruba.it Racing – Ducati.

Bautista, currently tenth in the standings, will be aiming to end the season strongly after narrowly missing out on a podium at Estoril. The Spaniard has an impressive record at Jerez and will be looking to use his familiarity with the circuit to challenge near the front.

Xavi Vierge of Pata Maxus Yamaha will also have added motivation as he prepares for his final race with Yamaha. A strong result could help him finish as the highest-placed Yamaha rider in the 2026 championship.

Ducati Leads WorldSBK Record at Jerez

The Spanish circuit has historically been a strong venue for Ducati, which leads the manufacturers’ victory count at Jerez among the current WorldSBK participants.

Ducati has recorded 17 WorldSBK victories at the circuit, ahead of Kawasaki with four, Yamaha with three and BMW with one.

Among the current grid, Bulega and Bautista are the most successful riders at Jerez, with five victories each. No other rider on the current grid has won a WorldSBK race at the Spanish venue.

These records underline Ducati’s historical strength at the circuit and set the stage for another potentially successful weekend for the manufacturer.
