MotoGP Indonesia: Bezzecchi Wins Mandalika GP as Martin Holds Two-Point Championship Lead
Mandalika, Indonesia, October 12, 2026: Marco Bezzecchi claimed a memorable victory at the 2026 Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix at Mandalika, bouncing back from a dramatic Sprint Saturday to lead an all-Aprilia podium. SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team rider Raul Fernandez finished second despite racing with two broken fingers, while championship leader Jorge Martin secured third place to maintain his two-point advantage in the title race.
The 17th round of the 2026 MotoGP World Championship delivered another dramatic weekend in Lombok, with Bezzecchi closing the gap in the championship standings and Marc Marquez limiting his losses after a challenging Grand Prix.
With the championship battle still finely poised, attention now turns to the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island.
Bezzecchi Completes Emotional Comeback with Mandalika Victory
Bezzecchi delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend, securing his first Sunday Grand Prix victory since returning from injury. The Aprilia Racing rider had endured a difficult Saturday after being involved in a crash at the start of the Sprint, but responded emphatically in the main race.
The Italian benefited from the strong pace of his Aprilia throughout the weekend to take victory and gain valuable ground in the championship battle. Despite the result, Bezzecchi remains 46 points behind the championship leader as he heads to Australia.
Reflecting on the victory, Bezzecchi said the period following his injury had been long and difficult, making the Mandalika triumph particularly emotional.
His recovery had initially progressed well, but fighting consistently at the front proved challenging. The Italian credited the team’s work over the weekend for providing the pace needed to fight for victory.
Bezzecchi also demonstrated his determination after Saturday’s incident, choosing to focus on Sunday’s race rather than dwell on the disappointment.
Jorge Martin Maintains Championship Lead Despite Aprilia’s Dominance
Martin finished third in Indonesia to preserve his two-point advantage at the top of the championship standings. The 2024 MotoGP World Champion collected 22 points across the weekend, maintaining his consistency despite acknowledging that he had not been at his most competitive.
The Aprilia Racing rider showed strong potential in Saturday’s Sprint, where he finished fourth, but believed victory had been within reach before the race unfolded differently.
Martin admitted that he had struggled to match the pace of Bezzecchi and Fernandez during the Grand Prix. Nevertheless, third place represented a solid points haul as the title fight enters a crucial phase.
The Spaniard highlighted consistency, speed and intelligent race management as the key factors that will determine the championship outcome.
Martin remains firmly in contention, having regularly scored points and secured podium finishes even when he has not had the pace to challenge for victory.
Marc Marquez Limits Championship Damage at Mandalika
Marc Marquez emerged from the Indonesian Grand Prix weekend satisfied with the outcome, despite finishing sixth in Sunday’s race.
The Ducati Lenovo Team rider had won Saturday’s Sprint but found the Grand Prix more challenging as Aprilia dominated the leading positions. Four Aprilia riders featured at the front, underlining the manufacturer’s strength at the Mandalika circuit.
Marquez collected 22 points over the weekend and was particularly pleased that he did not lose ground to Martin in the championship standings.
Before arriving in Indonesia, the Spaniard had anticipated a difficult weekend and expected to lose as many as 15 points or more to his rivals. Instead, he managed to limit the damage, losing only three points to Bezzecchi while maintaining his position relative to Martin.
Marquez acknowledged that Mandalika suited Aprilia better than Ducati, making the result more encouraging than he had expected.
Raul Fernandez Takes Second Despite Two Broken Fingers
Fernandez produced one of the most impressive rides of the Indonesian Grand Prix, finishing second despite racing with two broken fingers following Saturday’s incident.
The Trackhouse MotoGP Team rider had to adapt his braking technique and corner entry throughout the race, with his injuries presenting a significant physical challenge.
Fernandez explained that the most serious problem was not the pain itself but the fact that the injured finger was the one he used to brake. The injury forced him to rethink his riding references and approach to corners.
As the race progressed, the physical demands became increasingly difficult, with Fernandez admitting that he was almost exhausted after 13 or 14 laps.
Despite the discomfort and the need to remain completely focused, he avoided mistakes to secure second place and 20 valuable championship points.
His performance helped complete an all-Aprilia podium alongside Bezzecchi and Martin, reinforcing Aprilia’s dominance at Mandalika.
Pedro Acosta Finishes Fifth After Front Tyre Pressure Issues
Pedro Acosta finished fifth for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing but believed a stronger result had been possible.
The Spaniard encountered difficulties managing front tyre pressure during the race, forcing him to adjust his approach and costing him valuable time. Acosta felt the issue may have prevented him from challenging for fourth place and potentially a podium finish.
Despite the disappointment, Acosta was encouraged by the progress made by KTM and is looking forward to the Australian Grand Prix.
He expects another demanding weekend at Phillip Island, where he anticipates strong challenges from Aprilia and Ducati.
Acosta enters the Australian round fifth in the championship standings, continuing his pursuit of a stronger finish to the season.
Toprak Razgatlioglu Retires After Shoulder Injury
It was a difficult Indonesian Grand Prix for Toprak Razgatlioglu, who retired from Sunday’s race after struggling with a shoulder injury sustained in a crash during FP2.
The Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP rider dislocated his shoulder in the incident and managed to put it back into position. Although he attempted to continue racing with the help of painkillers, the injury significantly affected his strength.
Razgatlioglu particularly struggled under braking and through right-hand corners, where the loss of power in his shoulder made it difficult to control the motorcycle.
Despite attempting to push through the pain during the early stages of the Grand Prix, the physical limitations eventually forced him to retire.
His difficult weekend highlighted the physical demands of MotoGP and the challenges riders face when attempting to compete with injuries.
MotoGP Championship Battle Heads to Australia
The Indonesian Grand Prix has set up another compelling chapter in the 2026 MotoGP championship battle. Martin continues to lead, but Bezzecchi’s victory has helped him close the gap, while Marquez remains firmly involved after limiting his losses at a circuit that favoured Aprilia.
With only two points separating the top two in the title race, the upcoming Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island could prove decisive in shaping the championship fight.
Consistency, race pace and tyre management will be critical as the riders prepare for another demanding weekend in Australia.
