The Wave: A Simple Solution for Big City Traffic

That said, the latest product from Simple Energy, the Wave, appears well on its way to helping reduce pollution and that is also fun and easy to ride.

After the Simple One, Simple OneS and Simple Ultra comes the Wave from the stables of Bengaluru-based manufacturer Simple Energy.

The Simple Wave looks stunning. What particularly stands out is that there are no sharp cutaways and edges on the body. It is all smooth and round. The LED headlights and tail lamps do justice to break the darkness of the night.

The Simple Wave feels impressive during riding. It caters to a wide variety of uses. If one is riding in the jam-packed peak hour traffic in the big cities, then the Eco mode will do sufficiently well and feels just right to keep you going. This mode will also increase the range of the Wave.

The Sport mode just rocks when it comes to the torque and acceleration. Just a small twist of the throttle and the Wave surges forward with gusto, enough for overtaking manoeuvres. Speeds of 80 or 90 Kmph is very easy to achieve. All the while, even at high speeds, the Wave remains stable. The suspension is also well designed and keeps the scooter stable even while negotiating potholes or bad roads.

The boot space is something of a boon for the rider. Just think of it, a 70-litre boot under the seat can easily hold two helmets and other small things. The boot space also has a small lamp that will help you find your things in the dark. The Pill Box is a small storage space on the side of the scooter. One comes as standard and the other side is the optional accessory.

The 7-inch TFT display is crisp and clearly visible even in bright sunlight. The switches are well laid out and one does not have trouble finding the horn, hazard light, engine stop/ start, indicator or other switches.

Overall, I feel that the Simple Wave is a fun and friendly scooter to ride. Its light weight is a boon and one will not get fatigued with riding in packed big city traffic conditions.

The seat (920 mm in length) is wide and comfortable and if you are among the taller folk using the scooter, then there is ample space between the front and the seat. So, the rider does not have to go too far back on the seat in order to avoid the knees hitting the front.

The Wave comes in three variants. The top variant has an impressive IDC range of 243 Km, with a top speed of 90 Kmph (from a 5 KWh battery) and a 0-40 acceleration in a mere 3.3 seconds, thanks to a 6.4 KW motor.

The mid variant has a range of 171 Km, top speed of 90 Kmph and 0-40 in 3.3 seconds. The base variant has a range of 132 Km with a top speed of 75 Kmph and a 0-40 time of 4 seconds.

The Wave can be connected to the Simple Connect app on your smartphone and there are features like Super Share, Find My Scooter, Push Navigation and Ping My Scooter. Other features include Guide Me Home Light, Super Hold, Hushdrive, Theft and Two Alerts, Drop Safe and Trusted Braking.  

Other smart features include Live Location Sharing, Ping My Scooter, Push Navigation, Message Alerts, Call and Music Control, Reverse Assist, Traction Control, Over The Air Updates and Advanced Regneration.

The riding modes are Eco X, Eco, Ride and Sport, with the last one giving exhilarating performance. The scooter is IP67 rated for ingress protection.

The Wave comes in Polar Blue, Twilight Black, Coral Red, Pearl White, Dolphin Grey and Forest Green colours.

The Wave pricing begins from Rs 1,09,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru).
