The FIA International Court of Appeal has overturned the decision to cancel Pierre Gasly’s two five-second time penalties from the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix, reinstating the penalties following successful appeals by McLaren Racing and Red Bull Racing.

The FIA International Court of Appeal (ICA) has ruled in favour of McLaren Racing Limited and Red Bull Racing Limited in their appeals against decisions made by the Stewards of the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix concerning Alpine driver Pierre Gasly.

The ruling means that the two five-second time penalties originally imposed on Gasly for pit-lane speeding will stand, reversing the Stewards’ subsequent decision to rescind those penalties.

Gasly originally handed two five-second penalties

During the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix on June 7, the Stewards imposed two separate five-second time penalties on Pierre Gasly, driving Car No. 10, after reports from the Race Director established that the Alpine driver had exceeded the pit-lane speed limit.

Both penalties were issued under Article B1.6.3a of the 2026 FIA Formula One Regulations – Section B.

Following the decisions, BWT Alpine F1 Team submitted two petitions for review under Article 14 of the FIA International Sporting Code.

On June 12, the Stewards concluded that a significant and relevant new element, which had not been available when the original penalties were imposed, warranted a review of the case.

As a result, the Stewards rescinded both five-second penalties, amended the race classification and recalculated the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship points.

McLaren and Red Bull appeal FIA Stewards’ decision

The decision to remove Gasly’s penalties was subsequently challenged by McLaren Racing Limited and Red Bull Racing Limited.

Both teams lodged appeals with the FIA International Court of Appeal on June 16, arguing against the Stewards’ June 12 decision.

After hearing the parties and examining the submissions presented in the case, the International Court of Appeal declared both appeals admissible and successful.

FIA International Court of Appeal reinstates Gasly penalties

The ICA has now set aside Decisions No. 1 and No. 2 dated June 12, 2026, contained in Document 99 of the Monaco Grand Prix Stewards’ decisions.

More importantly, the Court ruled that the original two five-second penalties imposed on Pierre Gasly under Documents 73 and 75 stand and are to be reimposed.

The Court exercised its powers under Articles 14.12.1 and 14.12.2 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules to reinstate the penalties.

The ruling also orders the competent Sporting Authority to make the necessary changes to the official results.

This includes amendments to Document 100, the Revised Final Race Classification, and Document 101, the Revised Championship Points.

Monaco GP results and championship standings to be amended

The FIA Court of Appeal ruling means the official classification of the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix will have to be revised once again.

The reinstatement of Gasly’s two five-second penalties could alter his final race classification and, consequently, the championship points awarded to the relevant drivers and teams.

The FIA’s competent Sporting Authority will now be responsible for implementing the consequences of the Court’s ruling and issuing the amended classification and championship standings.

The panel also included Tomas Borec of Slovakia, Luigi Fumagalli of Italy and Filippo Marchino of the USA/Italy.

With the Court ruling in favour of McLaren and Red Bull, the original penalties issued to Gasly at the Monaco Grand Prix have been restored, bringing the FIA’s judicial process surrounding the case to its latest conclusion.
