Lando Norris has extended his contract with the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team until at least the end of the 2030 season, securing the 2025 Formula 1 Drivers’ World Champion’s future with the team for at least another four years. The new deal also includes a multi-year option that could see Norris remain with McLaren beyond 2030.

The contract extension was announced by Norris himself at the McLaren Technology Centre during the team’s annual family and friends open day.

Norris, 26, joined McLaren in 2017 through its junior programme as a Test and Simulator Driver before being promoted to a Formula 1 race seat in 2019. Since then, the British driver has made 163 Grand Prix starts for McLaren, more than any other driver in the team’s history.

During his time with McLaren, Norris has established himself as one of Formula 1’s leading drivers. He has recorded 18 pole positions, 48 podium finishes and 13 Grand Prix victories, while also playing a key role in McLaren’s recent resurgence.

Norris won his maiden Formula 1 Drivers’ World Championship in 2025, becoming McLaren’s first Drivers’ Champion since Lewis Hamilton achieved the feat in 2008. He also helped McLaren secure consecutive Constructors’ Championships in 2024 and 2025.

Norris to Remain McLaren’s Lead Driver

The new contract provides further long-term stability for McLaren’s Formula 1 operation. Norris’ extension follows Oscar Piastri’s contract extension announced in March 2025, while McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown and Team Principal Andrea Stella have also committed their futures to the organisation through long-term agreements.

The move effectively secures McLaren’s driver line-up around Norris and Piastri for the years ahead as the team looks to build on its recent return to the front of the Formula 1 grid.

As part of the contract announcement, McLaren will also gift Norris an MCL39, the car he raced during his championship-winning 2025 Formula 1 season.

The MCL39 will serve as a permanent reminder of Norris’ contribution to one of the most successful periods in McLaren’s recent history, including the team’s second consecutive Constructors’ Championship and Norris’ breakthrough Drivers’ title.

Speaking about his new contract, Norris said McLaren had become his home since joining the organisation nine years ago.

“McLaren is my home, and I’m very pleased to be signing a new contract to keep me with the team until at least 2030.”

Norris said his original objective when joining McLaren was to help return the team to the front of Formula 1 and fight for championships.

“We’ve achieved that goal, but we want more, we want to keep on winning, and we know as a team that we’re capable of achieving it,” he added.

The Briton also said he was looking forward to returning to the cockpit at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza and was excited about McLaren’s future.

Andrea Stella Praises Norris’ Contribution

McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella described Norris as an integral part of the team’s journey over the past nine years.

Stella highlighted Norris’ combination of speed, consistency, maturity and commitment to McLaren, while also praising his contribution to the team’s culture.

The McLaren boss said the extension would provide important continuity and reinforce the team’s confidence in its current direction.

“With him and Oscar, we know we can count not only on one of the strongest partnerships but also on one of the most united and close-knit teams in Formula 1,” Stella said.

Zak Brown Hails McLaren’s “Papaya Era”

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said Norris’ new contract was a reflection of the team’s commitment to identifying and developing young talent.

Brown pointed to Norris’ journey from the McLaren junior programme to becoming a Formula 1 World Champion as an example of that approach.

He also credited Norris, Piastri, Stella and the wider McLaren organisation with helping transform the team from regular midfield contenders into back-to-back Constructors’ Championship winners.

McLaren won the Constructors’ Championship in both 2024 and 2025, while Norris’ 2025 Drivers’ Championship ended the team’s 17-year wait for a Formula 1 Drivers’ title.

With Norris now committed to McLaren until at least 2030 and Piastri also under a long-term contract, the team has established a strong foundation for the next phase of its Formula 1 campaign.
