Michelin Launches Made-in-India Primacy 5 Tyre in India for Sedans, SUVs and EVs

Chennai, August 4, 2026: Michelin has launched the MICHELIN Primacy 5 premium passenger car tyre in India, marking a major milestone for the French tyre manufacturer as it becomes the first Michelin passenger car tyre to be manufactured in India for Indian consumers.

Designed for premium sedans, SUVs and electric vehicles (EVs), the new Primacy 5 combines Michelin’s latest tyre technologies with local manufacturing to deliver improved safety, ride comfort, longevity and energy efficiency.

The tyre will be available across Michelin’s retail network in India from August 2026.

Michelin Primacy 5 Developed for Indian Roads

Michelin says the Primacy 5 has been specifically engineered for Indian driving conditions and tested on some of the country’s most popular passenger vehicles.

The company has incorporated advanced tread pattern optimisation and next-generation rubber compounds to ensure consistent performance across internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid and electric vehicles.

Speaking at the launch in Chennai, Shantanu Deshpande, Managing Director, Michelin India, said the new tyre reflects the company’s commitment to developing products tailored specifically for Indian motorists while strengthening its manufacturing footprint in the country.

He added that the Primacy 5 has been benchmarked against leading competitors and independently validated to meet the growing demand for premium, safe and sustainable mobility solutions.

Michelin Primacy 5 Delivers Class-Leading Safety

Safety remains the biggest highlight of the new Primacy 5.

According to Michelin, the tyre offers:

• Up to 8 metres shorter wet braking distance than leading competitors when new.
• Up to 9 metres shorter wet braking distance even when worn.
• 4 metres shorter dry braking distance compared to rival tyres in the same category.

The company credits these improvements to its proprietary EverGrip and EverTread technologies, which are designed to maintain grip throughout the tyre’s lifecycle without compromising durability.

8% Longer Tyre Life Than Primacy 4ST

Michelin has also focused on improving tyre longevity.

The Primacy 5 is claimed to deliver 8% more mileage than the outgoing MICHELIN Primacy 4ST, helping reduce replacement frequency and improve long-term ownership costs.

The company says the tyre continues to offer strong performance from the first kilometre to the last while maintaining consistent grip and braking performance.

Ride Comfort Improved by 9%

Comfort has also received a significant upgrade.

Michelin says the Primacy 5 achieves a 9% better ride comfort score than the average of competing premium tyres.

A redesigned tread pattern helps reduce road noise and vibration, resulting in a quieter cabin and a smoother driving experience without affecting durability.

EV-Ready Tyre With Better Energy Efficiency

Recognising the rapid growth of electric mobility in India, Michelin has designed the Primacy 5 to work equally well with electric vehicles, hybrids and conventional petrol and diesel cars.

The tyre has been engineered to cope with the higher torque output and additional weight of EVs while maintaining durability, ride comfort and handling performance.

Michelin also claims a 6.5% improvement in energy efficiency over the Primacy 4ST, helping reduce fuel consumption in ICE vehicles while extending driving range in electric vehicles.

The MICHELIN Primacy 5 has already received international recognition, winning the prestigious “Tyre of the Year 2025” award at the Tyre Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence.
