Tata Motors Launches Intra V40 Bi-Fuel Pickup with 1,525kg Payload, Expands Alternate Fuel Commercial Vehicle Portfolio

Bengaluru, India, June 3, 2026: Tata Motors has strengthened its presence in India’s rapidly evolving alternate fuel commercial vehicle market with the launch of the all-new Intra V40 pickup truck. The latest addition to the company’s small commercial vehicle lineup combines CNG and petrol bi-fuel technology with class-leading payload capacity, targeting businesses seeking lower operating costs and greater operational flexibility.

The launch marks another significant step in Tata Motors’ strategy to expand its alternate fuel portfolio as demand for cleaner and more economical last-mile transportation solutions continues to grow across India.

Best-in-Class Payload and Extended Range

Designed for high-load, high-efficiency operations, the new Intra V40 offers a best-in-segment payload capacity of 1,525kg and a 2,960mm (9.7ft) long load body. The combination is aimed at helping fleet operators and business owners maximise cargo-carrying capability while maintaining operational efficiency across diverse transport applications.

Powering the pickup is a 1.2-litre engine producing 58 bhp and 106 Nm of torque. The vehicle is equipped with a large 110-litre CNG tank, enabling an extended driving range for long operating cycles. Its bi-fuel architecture allows operators to seamlessly switch between CNG and petrol, ensuring uninterrupted operations even when access to CNG refuelling infrastructure is limited.

The Intra V40 has been engineered specifically for demanding last-mile logistics applications, where fuel efficiency, reliability and uptime remain critical factors for profitability.

Focus on Driver Comfort and Safety

Built on Tata Motors’ proven commercial vehicle platform, the Intra V40 features a modern walk-through cabin designed to enhance driver convenience during long working hours. The company says the vehicle delivers car-like driving dynamics, making it easier to manoeuvre in congested urban environments while reducing driver fatigue.

Safety and vehicle control are further enhanced through the inclusion of front disc brakes. The pickup is also underpinned by a hydroformed chassis that improves structural strength, stability and ride refinement, contributing to consistent performance under varying load conditions.

Tata Motors Strengthens Alternate Fuel Leadership

Commenting on the launch, Pinaki Haldar, Vice President and Business Head – Small Commercial Vehicle and Pickup Unit at Tata Motors, highlighted the growing shift towards alternate fuels in cargo transportation.

According to Haldar, increasing demand for lower operating costs and greater flexibility is accelerating the adoption of alternate fuel technologies in the last-mile logistics sector. He noted that the introduction of the Intra V40 further strengthens Tata Motors’ bi-fuel portfolio while reinforcing its leadership position in alternate fuel mobility.

The company also emphasised that its growing electric commercial vehicle lineup is supporting a gradual transition towards greener transportation solutions.

India’s Widest Bi-Fuel Commercial Vehicle Range

With the introduction of the Intra V40, Tata Motors now claims to offer India’s most comprehensive bi-fuel commercial vehicle portfolio. The lineup includes the Tata Ace Pro Bi-Fuel, Tata Ace CNG 2.0, Tata Intra V20 Gold and the newly launched Tata Intra V40.

The company’s alternate fuel strategy is further supported by its electric commercial vehicle range, which includes the Tata Ace Pro EV, Tata Ace EV 1000 and Tata Intra EV Pickup.

This broad product portfolio allows customers to choose between bi-fuel and electric options depending on payload requirements, route conditions and operating economics.

Comprehensive Ownership Support

The Intra V40 is backed by Tata Motors’ ownership ecosystem, including the Sampoorna Seva 2.0 support programme and Fleet Edge telematics platform. These services provide operators with real-time vehicle monitoring, predictive maintenance alerts and fleet management insights aimed at improving uptime and overall productivity.
