Ashok Leyland Signs MoU With PT Pindad to Develop Electric Buses and Defence Vehicles in Indonesia
Bandung, Indonesia | 4 February 2026 — Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja Group and a global leader in commercial and defence vehicles, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Pindad, Indonesia’s state-owned defence and industrial equipment manufacturer, to jointly develop and manufacture electric buses and defence vehicles for the Indonesian market.
The agreement was signed at PT Pindad’s headquarters in Bandung and marks a significant step in strengthening India–Indonesia bilateral cooperation in the fields of sustainable mobility and advanced defence technologies.
Under the MoU, Ashok Leyland and PT Pindad will collaborate on the joint development of electric mobility solutions and defence platforms tailored to Indonesia’s evolving transportation infrastructure and national security requirements. The partnership combines Ashok Leyland’s global expertise in commercial electric vehicle platforms and defence mobility solutions with PT Pindad’s strong local engineering capabilities, manufacturing infrastructure and long-standing role in Indonesia’s defence ecosystem.
The MoU was formalised in the presence of Prof. Sigit P. Santosa, Chief Executive Officer of PT Pindad; Amandeep Singh, President – International Operations, Defence, LCV & PSB at Ashok Leyland; and Lord Tariq, Advisor to the Board at Hinduja Auto.
Indonesia has been accelerating its transition toward energy-efficient transportation, increased electric vehicle adoption, and locally manufactured defence platforms. The collaboration aligns closely with the country’s national priorities of reducing emissions, enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities, and modernising its defence fleet.
Speaking on the occasion, Amandeep Singh said that Ashok Leyland’s long-standing legacy in delivering reliable commercial and defence mobility solutions worldwide would play a key role in the partnership. He highlighted that Switch Mobility, Ashok Leyland’s electric vehicle subsidiary, has developed a wide portfolio of globally competitive electric buses, enabling the joint development of products specifically suited to Indonesia’s terrain, infrastructure and operational needs.
