Colton Herta to Race in 2026 FIA Formula 2 Championship with Hitech, Continues as Cadillac Formula 1 Team Test Driver

October 21, 2025 — Fishers, Indiana & Silverstone, UK: The Cadillac Formula 1 Team has announced that Colton Herta, its official Test Driver, will make his FIA Formula 2 Championship debut in 2026 with Hitech Grand Prix.

The 25-year-old Californian, one of America’s most celebrated young open-wheel racers, will combine his full F2 campaign with ongoing responsibilities for Cadillac’s F1 program — strengthening his integration within the Formula 1® environment as part of his long-term development plan.

From IndyCar Star to Formula 2 Contender

Herta’s move to Formula 2 marks the next milestone in an already impressive motorsport career. A multiple race winner in the NTT INDYCAR Series, Herta became the youngest winner in INDYCAR history in 2019 and has since established himself as a consistent front-runner with multiple poles, podiums, and victories across North America’s most iconic tracks.

Now, the American driver returns to the European single-seater scene — a familiar setting from his early career — where he previously competed in British F4, British F3, Spanish F3, and Euroformula Open, amassing 10 wins and 11 pole positions.

Hitech Partnership for 2026 Formula 2 Season

Racing with Hitech, one of the most competitive and successful teams in Formula 2, Herta will take on the world’s premier junior single-seater championship — which runs alongside the Formula 1® calendar.

The 2026 season will feature iconic circuits including Monaco, Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, and Silverstone, offering Herta valuable experience on many of the same tracks used by Cadillac’s F1 operation.

Continued Role with Cadillac Formula 1® Team

While competing in F2, Herta will continue his role as Cadillac Formula 1 Team Test Driver, supporting the squad through simulator work and selected Grand Prix weekends. The synchronized F1 and F2 schedules will enable Herta to maintain close collaboration with Cadillac engineers and race operations, further enhancing his growth as part of the team’s future driver pathway.

Statements from Herta and Cadillac Leadership

Colton Herta, Cadillac Formula 1 Team Test Driver & Hitech Formula 2 Driver:

“I’m incredibly excited to officially be joining F2 for the 2026 Formula 2 season. This is an amazing opportunity to develop my skills in European racing and to measure myself against some of the best young drivers in the world. Racing on the same weekends as Formula 1 will give me first-hand experience of that environment and help me grow as part of the Cadillac F1 family. I’m very grateful to Cadillac and Hitech for their trust and support and I can’t wait to get started.”

Dan Towriss, CEO, TWG Motorsports and Cadillac Formula 1 Team:

“Colton has already shown exceptional talent and professionalism throughout his career. His move into Formula 2 with Hitech is a natural and important next step in his development towards Formula 1. Competing in F2 will not only strengthen his racecraft in the European environment but also allow for greater integration with our team as he continues to support us with his testing and simulator duties. We are proud of Colton’s commitment to success in European racing, and we look forward to seeing him take on this exciting new challenge with Hitech – a team with a proven history of success in junior categories.”

A Step Closer to Formula 1

Herta’s 2026 F2 campaign marks a significant step in Cadillac’s broader driver development strategy, aligning the American manufacturer’s long-term Formula 1 ambitions with a strong presence across the junior categories. With Herta’s combination of raw speed, technical insight, and international experience, Cadillac strengthens its connection between American motorsport and the global F1 stage.
