New Delhi, India, September 14, 2026: Maruti Suzuki India has crossed a major export milestone, with cumulative shipments of its Made-in-India Jimny 5-door, FRONX and e VITARA to Japan surpassing 1 lakh units. The achievement marks a significant moment in the company’s export journey, particularly as Japan is regarded as one of the world’s most competitive and advanced automotive markets.

Maruti Suzuki began exporting the FRONX to Japan in August 2024, followed by the Jimny 5-door in December 2024. The company’s first battery electric vehicle, the e VITARA, joined the Japan-bound export portfolio in September 2025.

The Jimny 5-door and e VITARA are manufactured exclusively in India, underlining the growing role of India as a global manufacturing base for Suzuki.

Japan emerges as a key export market

Japan was Maruti Suzuki’s second-largest export market by volume in FY 2025-26 and has retained the position during April-August FY 2026-27. The strong performance of the FRONX, Jimny 5-door and e VITARA has contributed to the growing acceptance of Indian-made vehicles among Japanese customers.

The achievement also comes as Suzuki Motor Corporation emerged as the No.1 vehicle importer in Japan in FY 2025-26, ahead of several established international automotive manufacturers. Maruti Suzuki-manufactured vehicles accounted for nearly 100% of Suzuki’s vehicle imports into Japan during the financial year.

India-made vehicles gain acceptance in Japan

Commenting on the milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, said the 1 lakh-unit export achievement demonstrates the manufacturing capabilities of India and the acceptance of Indian-made vehicles in one of the world’s most demanding automobile markets.

He also highlighted the milestone as a symbol of the evolution of the India-Japan automotive partnership, which began with Suzuki’s manufacturing presence in India and has now progressed to vehicles produced in India being sold successfully to Japanese customers.

Maruti Suzuki expands global export footprint

Exports have become a key focus area for Maruti Suzuki, with the company leveraging Suzuki’s global distribution network to reach nearly 120 countries.

Maruti Suzuki has remained India’s No.1 passenger vehicle exporter from FY 2021-22 through FY 2025-26. The automaker exported more than 1.8 lakh vehicles between April and August of FY 2026-27, accounting for more than 50% of India’s passenger vehicle export volumes.

The latest milestone in Japan further strengthens Maruti Suzuki’s strategy of manufacturing vehicles in India for global markets, with the company increasingly using India as an important production and export hub within Suzuki’s worldwide operations.
