EKA Mobility Rolls Out 1,000th Electric Small Commercial Vehicle from Pune Plant on World Environment Day

Pune, India, June 5, 2026: EKA Mobility, one of India’s fastest-growing electric commercial vehicle manufacturers, has achieved a major milestone with the rollout of its 1,000th Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) from its advanced manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The achievement underscores the company’s growing role in accelerating India’s transition toward sustainable and zero-emission transportation solutions.

The landmark vehicle, an EKA 6S electric three-wheeler, was formally handed over to the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust, one of Pune’s most respected charitable organizations known for its extensive social and community welfare initiatives. The trust will deploy the vehicle for its community service activities, reinforcing the growing adoption of electric mobility in public and civic operations.

The EKA 6S is positioned as India’s first steering-wheel passenger electric three-wheeler offering seating for a driver and six passengers, catering to the evolving needs of urban and last-mile mobility.

International Recognition for India’s EV Manufacturing Ambitions

Adding global significance to the occasion, EKA Mobility also handed over an EKA 3S electric three-wheeler to H.E. Marisa Gerards, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to India. The symbolic gesture highlights the growing collaboration between India and the Netherlands in promoting sustainable transportation and green mobility solutions.

The Netherlands, globally recognized for its progressive mobility policies, is also home to EKA Mobility’s strategic investor and technology partner, VDL Groep. The handover reflects a shared commitment to advancing zero-emission transportation ecosystems and fostering international cooperation in clean mobility.

Chakan Facility Emerges as Key EV Manufacturing Hub

EKA Mobility’s Chakan plant has rapidly evolved into a major production center for electric small commercial vehicles and trucks. The facility currently boasts an installed annual manufacturing capacity of 24,000 commercial vehicles and provides employment to more than 1,000 people.

The manufacturing hub also houses a state-of-the-art research and development center staffed by over 400 engineers and designers focused on advancing electric vehicle technology and innovation.

A standout feature of the facility is EKA Mobility’s “EvolutioNARI” initiative, which includes an all-women-led assembly line for small commercial vehicles. The initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to diversity, inclusion, and women’s empowerment within India’s manufacturing sector.

Demand for Electric Commercial Vehicles Continues to Grow

The production milestone comes at a time when electric commercial vehicle adoption is gaining momentum across multiple sectors, including e-commerce, FMCG distribution, passenger transportation, and last-mile delivery services.

As a Champion OEM under the Government of India’s Auto Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, EKA Mobility is backed by prominent global and domestic investors, including VDL Groep (Netherlands), Mitsui & Co. (Japan), NIIF India-Japan Fund, and Enam Holdings.

Commenting on the achievement, Founder and Chairman Dr. Sudhir Mehta said the 1,000th vehicle represents far more than a production milestone.

“The 1,000th SCV rolling off our Chakan facility is proof of what Indian engineering, innovation, and determination can achieve. It reflects years of perseverance and a shared belief that India can emerge as a global leader in sustainable mobility through world-class products designed and manufactured at home,” he said.

Dr. Mehta added that the company’s mission extends beyond vehicle production to creating sustainable transportation solutions that help businesses reduce environmental impact and contribute to a cleaner future.

He further emphasized that EKA Mobility’s smart, lean, and technology-driven manufacturing facilities are built for rapid scale-up as demand for electric commercial vehicles continues to rise across India.

With growing market adoption, expanding production capabilities, and strong international partnerships, EKA Mobility is positioning itself as a key player in India’s rapidly evolving electric commercial vehicle ecosystem.
