Honda Celebrates 5 Years of Bengaluru Safety Driving Education Centre, Trains Over 75,000 Individuals

Bengaluru, October 11, 2025: Continuing its mission to foster a culture of safe and responsible road habits, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) celebrated the 5th anniversary of its Safety Driving Education Centre (SDEC) in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

The commemorative event was graced by Sharanappa, Karnataka State Police Service (KSPS), Assistant Commissioner of Police and Principal, Traffic Training and Road Safety Institute, along with other dignitaries who lauded the SDEC’s contributions in strengthening road safety awareness among citizens.

Established in October 2020 in association with the Bengaluru Traffic Police, the centre has trained over 75,000 individuals—including school children, college students, and working professionals—through a blend of theoretical lessons and hands-on sessions on safe riding practices.

Celebrating Five Years of Safer Roads

The anniversary celebration began with a cake-cutting ceremony followed by a special batch training session for Bengaluru Traffic Police personnel, including Assistant Sub-Inspectors and Constables. The event also featured safety riding activities and an essay writing competition for students from Federal Public School.

As the Bengaluru SDEC enters its 6th year, HMSI reaffirmed its commitment to making road safety a daily habit rather than a one-time lesson. The initiative forms a vital part of Honda’s national vision to nurture a generation of responsible road users.

Honda’s Vision: Zero Traffic Collision Fatalities by 2050

Aligned with its global vision for 2050, Honda aims to achieve zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles. In India, HMSI supports the Government of India’s goal to halve road fatalities by 2030 through comprehensive awareness programs and training initiatives.

A cornerstone of this effort is instilling a safety-first mindset among children, shaping them into future road safety ambassadors. Through school and college engagement programs, HMSI seeks to embed safe road habits early in life.

Nationwide Reach and Impact

HMSI operates 10 Traffic Training Parks (TTPs) and 6 Safety Driving Education Centres (SDECs) across India, reaching over 10 million people through its National Road Safety Awareness Program. The programs include:

  • Scientifically Devised Learning Modules covering road signs, markings, and safe riding etiquettes.
  • Practical Learning via virtual riding simulators exposing trainees to over 100 real-world traffic scenarios.
  • Kiken Yosoku Training (KYT), a Japanese danger prediction module that enhances road awareness.
  • Skill Enhancement for Existing Riders, including balance and control exercises.

Digital Transformation: E-Gurukul for Road Safety Learning

Expanding its reach, HMSI recently launched E-Gurukul, a digital road safety learning platform tailored for children aged 5–18 years. The platform offers multilingual modules in Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and English, accessible via egurukul.honda.hmsi.in.

Through live or downloadable sessions, E-Gurukul empowers schools, educators, and families to integrate road safety education seamlessly into daily learning. Schools interested in participating can contact Safety.riding@honda.hmsi.in for customized programs.

Building a Safer India, One Rider at a Time

From Bengaluru’s SDEC to digital classrooms across India, HMSI continues to lead the charge toward a safer and more responsible mobility future. As the SDEC celebrates five successful years, it stands as a shining example of how education, awareness, and continuous engagement can save lives on the road.
