Mumbai, September 1, 2025: India’s commercial vehicle industry posted a steady performance in August 2025, with overall domestic and export sales climbing 5% year-on-year to 15,239 units, compared to 14,463 units in August 2024. The growth was largely driven by robust demand for medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCV) buses, which registered double-digit gains.


Domestic Sales: Marginal Growth at 2%

Domestic sales of commercial vehicles rose 2% to 13,622 units in August 2025, up from 13,347 units in the same month last year.

  • M&HCV Trucks: Sales grew slightly by 1% to 6,426 units (Aug’24: 6,385).
  • M&HCV Buses: Strong demand pushed sales up 11% to 1,565 units (Aug’24: 1,405).
  • Total M&HCV: Combined segment sales improved 3% to 7,991 units (Aug’24: 7,790).
  • LCVs: Light Commercial Vehicle sales inched up 1% to 5,631 units (Aug’24: 5,557).

On a cumulative basis (April–August 2025), domestic sales stood at 68,350 units, a 1% increase over 67,832 units in the same period of FY24.


Exports Boost Overall Performance

When exports are included, total commercial vehicle sales in August 2025 rose to 15,239 units, an increase of 5%compared to 14,463 units a year earlier.

  • M&HCV Trucks: Largely flat at 6,738 units (Aug’24: 6,719).
  • M&HCV Buses: Surged 36% to 2,643 units, reflecting strong international demand (Aug’24: 1,944).
  • Total M&HCV: Grew 8% to 9,381 units (Aug’24: 8,663).
  • LCVs: Increased 1% to 5,858 units (Aug’24: 5,800).

Cumulative domestic and export sales for April–August 2025 reached 74,541 units, up 3% year-on-year from 72,284 units in the same period of FY24.
