Toyota Innova Celebrates 20 Years of Trust, Legacy, and Innovation in India
In a momentous milestone that underscores its enduring legacy in India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has proudly celebrated 20 years of the Toyota Innova, a name that has become synonymous with comfort, reliability, and family travel. Since its debut in 2005, the Innova has grown to become one of the most trusted Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) in India, with over 12 lakh units sold across its three avatars — Innova, Innova Crysta, and Innova HyCross.
Over two decades, the Innova has consistently evolved to meet the changing aspirations of Indian consumers, staying true to Toyota’s core principles of Quality, Durability, and Reliability (QDR). More than just a vehicle, it has become a part of countless family memories, business journeys, and personal milestones.
“The Toyota Innova has built a deep emotional bond with customers over the last two decades – trusted as a dependable companion for families and loved for its comfort and reliability,” said Mr. Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President – Sales, Service & Used Car Business, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
A Legacy of Innovation: From Innova to HyCross
The first-generation Innova, launched in 2005, revolutionized the MPV segment in India, offering unmatched ride comfort, spacious interiors, and robust build quality. In 2016, Toyota launched the Innova Crysta, raising the bar with a premium design, powerful engine, and upgraded safety features.
In 2022, the evolution continued with the Innova HyCross, Toyota’s first self-charging strong hybrid electric MPV in India. Based on Toyota’s 5th Gen Self-Charging Hybrid System, the HyCross is powered by a 2.0-litre gasoline engine paired with an e-drive transmission, offering a combined output of 137 kW (186 PS) and segment-best fuel efficiency. Features such as a panoramic sunroof, automatic LED headlamps, dual-function DRLs, and a bold gunmetal grille reflect Toyota’s commitment to luxury, performance, and sustainability.
The Hycross crossed 1 lakh unit sales in India by November 2024, reaffirming customer trust and the growing preference for hybrid mobility solutions.
Designed for Comfort, Built for Life
From metro cities to remote towns, the Innova has stood out for its versatility, long-term reliability, and low cost of ownership. Toyota’s continued focus on customer feedback has led to thoughtful innovations in safety, connectivity, and driving experience — making the Innova the gold standard in its segment.
Complementing this is Toyota’s T CARE ecosystem, which includes services like T DELIVER, T ASSIST, T SECURE, T CHOICE, and more — ensuring a seamless ownership experience from purchase to resale.
Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter
With over 6,500 employees, two plants in Bidadi, Karnataka, and a production capacity of 3,42,000 units per year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor remains committed to “Mass Happiness to All.” The Innova continues to play a central role in this mission, embodying the brand’s values while adapting to a future driven by sustainability, innovation, and mobility for all.
As Toyota celebrates 20 years of the Innova in India, it also celebrates a legacy built not just on numbers, but on millions of stories — a journey that is far from over. The Innova remains a trusted companion, ready to embrace the next era of transformation.
