Formula E Reschedules 2027 Monaco E-Prix and Extends Historic Partnership Until 2031

London, UK, August 4, 2026: Formula E and the FIA have officially announced a revised date for the 2027 Monaco E-Prix, moving the iconic race weekend to May 1-2, 2027, following approval via an e-vote of the FIA World Motor Sport Council.

The Monaco double-header was originally scheduled for May 15-16, but has been brought forward by two weeks to avoid a calendar clash with the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and better align with Monaco’s national events calendar.

In another major announcement, Formula E and the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM) have confirmed a long-term extension that will keep the Monaco E-Prix on the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar until 2031.

Monaco Remains Formula E’s Crown Jewel

The agreement marks another milestone in Formula E’s relationship with one of motorsport’s most prestigious venues.

What began as a biennial event has evolved into an annual highlight of the championship, with Formula E now racing on the legendary full-length Circuit de Monaco, sharing the same iconic layout used by other premier single-seater racing categories.

Formula E Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo said Monaco continues to represent one of the greatest stages in world motorsport and believes the arrival of the new GEN4 era will produce the most exciting Monaco E-Prix yet.

He pointed to former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard’s demonstration run in the GEN4 car earlier this year as a glimpse of the increased performance fans can expect, with faster speeds, more overtaking opportunities and closer wheel-to-wheel racing.

The Automobile Club de Monaco added that the extension reinforces the Principality’s commitment to sustainable mobility and ensures the Monaco E-Prix remains one of the marquee events on the international motorsport calendar through the end of the decade.

Nyck de Vries Welcomes Monaco Extension

Mahindra Racing driver Nyck de Vries, who won the Monaco E-Prix earlier this season, welcomed the long-term agreement.

The Dutch driver described Monaco as one of the races every driver dreams of winning and said receiving the trophy from H.S.H. Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene made the victory especially memorable.

De Vries, who also calls Monaco home, said extending the event until 2031 is fantastic news for both the championship and Formula E fans worldwide.

Formula E’s Biggest-Ever Season Features 21 Races

The 2026/27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will become the series’ largest season to date, featuring 21 races across 13 venues as the championship enters the new GEN4 era.

The campaign begins with a night-time double-header in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, before visiting Mexico City, debuting in Austin, returning to Miami, and heading to São Paulo.

Following the South American round, the championship travels to Sanya, China, before embarking on an expanded European campaign featuring double-headers in Monaco, Berlin, London, Zandvoort, and Madrid.

The season concludes with back-to-back Asian double-headers in Shanghai and Tokyo, where the first GEN4 champion will be crowned.

New E-PrixUnleashed Race Format Debuts

The 2026/27 season will also introduce an all-new race weekend structure for double-header events.

Alongside the traditional E-Prix, Formula E will debut E-PrixUnleashed, a shorter sprint-style race designed to showcase the unrestricted performance of the new GEN4 race car.

The championship says the new format will provide fans with two distinctly different racing experiences during the same weekend—combining strategic Formula E racing with pure high-speed competition.
