Tokyo, Japan, July 21, 2026: The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship heads to Japan this weekend for the 2026 TDK Tokyo E-Prix, where the series will stage its first-ever night races on Japanese streets. Tokyo to Host Formula E’s First Night Races

For the first time, both races of the Tokyo E-Prix will take place under floodlights, with lights-out scheduled for 20:00 local time on the challenging 2.58km Tokyo Street Circuit surrounding the iconic Tokyo Big Sight convention centre.

The 18-turn circuit is expected to offer an even greater spectacle as electric race cars tackle the narrow, technical layout under the night sky.

Championship Battle Goes Down to the Wire

With only four races remaining in the season, the championship fight could hardly be closer.

Reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein arrives in Tokyo leading the Drivers’ Championship after reclaiming the points lead from Mitch Evans following victory in Shanghai. Just nine points separate the top two drivers, while only six points divide Jaguar and Porsche in the Teams’ Championship. Porsche also leads the Manufacturers’ standings by 50 points over Jaguar heading into Tokyo.

Home favourite Oliver Rowland of Nissan Formula E Team believes racing in front of Japanese fans always adds extra motivation.

Rowland said returning to Nissan’s home event is special and admitted he is eager to experience the Tokyo circuit under lights for the first time while fighting for another strong result.

Meanwhile, Lucas di Grassi heads into Tokyo on a high after delivering Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team’s maiden Formula E victory in Shanghai. The Brazilian said the win was among the most memorable moments of his career and hopes to continue the momentum at Yamaha’s home race.

Formula E to Honour Cyril Blais

The Tokyo E-Prix will also feature tributes to Cyril Blais, the late Team Principal of Citroën Racing Formula E Team, who passed away earlier this week.

Formula E confirmed that a minute’s silence will be observed on the starting grid before Saturday’s race as the championship pays tribute to Blais and his contribution to the sport.
