Toyota Kirloskar Motor Crosses 3 Lakh Hybrid Vehicle Sales Milestone in India

Bengaluru, India, May 19, 2026: Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced a major milestone in its electrification journey, achieving cumulative sales of 3 lakh hybrid vehicles in India as demand for sustainable mobility solutions continues to grow across the country.

The achievement highlights the increasing acceptance of self-charging hybrid electric vehicle (SHEV) technology among Indian customers and reinforces Toyota’s leadership in hybrid mobility under its multi-pathway approach toward carbon neutrality.

Toyota stated that rising awareness around fuel efficiency, lower emissions, improved driving performance and ownership convenience has contributed significantly to the growing popularity of hybrid vehicles in India.

Toyota Hybrid Portfolio Gains Strong Momentum in India

Backed by more than 30 years of global hybrid expertise, Toyota continues to strengthen its position in India’s electrified mobility market through a broad range of hybrid offerings.

The company’s Indian hybrid portfolio currently includes popular models such as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Toyota Innova HyCross, Toyota Camry Hybrid and Toyota Vellfire.

Toyota said its hybrid technology is designed to offer a practical electrification solution for Indian consumers, especially in regions where charging infrastructure for fully electric vehicles is still developing.

Globally, Toyota has sold over 38 million electrified vehicles, contributing to a reduction of more than 197 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Toyota Reaffirms ‘Mass Electrification’ Strategy

Commenting on the milestone, Sabari Manohar, Executive Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said the company remains committed to making electrified mobility accessible and practical for Indian customers.

According to Toyota, its “Mass Electrification” philosophy focuses on delivering scalable and inclusive green mobility solutions that balance environmental responsibility with customer convenience and reliability.

The automaker emphasized that hybrid technology acts as an important bridge toward wider electrification by enabling customers to experience electric mobility without dependence on external charging infrastructure.

Self-Charging Hybrid Technology Driving Adoption

Toyota’s self-charging hybrid electric technology combines a petrol engine with an advanced electric motor to deliver improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

The system intelligently alternates between petrol and electric power, allowing the vehicle to operate in EV mode for significant periods during daily driving conditions.

Unlike battery electric vehicles, Toyota’s hybrid models recharge automatically through regenerative braking and engine power, eliminating the need for external charging and reducing concerns around driving range.

The company also highlighted its 8-year hybrid battery warranty, aimed at strengthening customer confidence in the durability and reliability of hybrid technology.

Toyota Expands Multi-Pathway Green Mobility Vision

Toyota reiterated its commitment to a diversified approach toward sustainable transportation by supporting multiple electrified mobility technologies.

Alongside Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), the company continues to invest in Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) and alternative fuel solutions including Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFVs).
