Maruti Suzuki Starts Production at Second Kharkhoda Plant, Boosts Annual Capacity to 26.5 Lakh Units

New Delhi, India, May 18, 2026: Maruti Suzuki India Limited has officially commenced commercial production at the second plant of its Kharkhoda manufacturing facility in Haryana, marking a major milestone in the automaker’s expansion strategy in India.

The announcement, made on May 18, 2026, significantly strengthens Maruti Suzuki’s production capabilities as the company continues to scale operations to meet rising domestic and export demand.

The newly operational second plant adds an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units, taking the total capacity of the Kharkhoda facility to 5 lakh vehicles per year.

Maruti Suzuki’s Total Production Capacity Reaches 26.5 Lakh Units

With the addition of the second Kharkhoda plant, Maruti Suzuki’s total annual manufacturing capacity across India has now increased to 26.5 lakh units.

The company currently operates manufacturing facilities at:

  • Gurugram
  • Manesar
  • Kharkhoda
  • Hansalpur

The expansion aligns with Maruti Suzuki’s previously announced plan to add 5 lakh units of production capacity during FY 2026–27.

Kharkhoda to Become One of Suzuki’s Largest Global Manufacturing Hubs

Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda manufacturing complex is expected to become one of Suzuki Motor Corporation’s largest four-wheeler production facilities globally, with a targeted annual capacity of 10 lakh vehicles.

The facility is a critical part of Maruti Suzuki’s long-term growth roadmap as the company aims to strengthen its leadership position in India’s rapidly expanding passenger vehicle market.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki manufactures the popular compact SUV Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the mid-size SUV Victoris at the Kharkhoda facility.

Kharkhoda Facility Reflects India Manufacturing Push

The Kharkhoda project also represents a major boost for automotive manufacturing in Haryana and aligns with India’s broader push to expand domestic industrial production under the Make in India initiative.

The foundation stone for the facility was laid in August 2022 by Narendra Modi, highlighting the strategic importance of the project for India’s automotive sector.

Maruti Suzuki Strengthens Position in India’s Passenger Vehicle Market

The expansion comes at a time when demand for SUVs and passenger vehicles remains strong in India. By increasing manufacturing capacity, Maruti Suzuki is positioning itself to support future product launches, improve delivery timelines and strengthen exports.

Industry analysts believe the Kharkhoda expansion will help the automaker maintain its dominant share in the Indian passenger vehicle market while supporting Suzuki’s global manufacturing ambitions.
