Yamaha Enters India’s EV Two-Wheeler Market with EC-06 Electric Scooter Priced at ₹1.67 Lakh

New Delhi: India Yamaha Motor (IYM) Pvt. Ltd. on Tuesday announced the launch and pricing of its first electric scooter, the Yamaha EC-06, marking the brand’s official entry into India’s fast-growing electric mobility segment. The scooter has been priced at ₹1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will be available in Bluish White across select cities through Yamaha’s premium Blue Square dealerships.

The EC-06 represents Yamaha’s strategic push toward sustainable mobility and directly supports the Government of India’s National Mission on Transformative Mobility, while aligning with the country’s long-term goal of achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2070. The launch also reinforces Yamaha’s broader carbon-neutrality roadmap in line with Indian emission norms and the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Targeted at urban commuters seeking a modern and functional electric two-wheeler, the EC-06 offers a certified riding range of 169 km, positioning it as a practical solution for daily city travel. The scooter blends Yamaha’s core design DNA with contemporary styling, featuring a stable stance, elevated proportions, and clean, sharp body lines aimed at young, style-conscious riders.

Developed in India with a global perspective, the EC-06 is powered by an IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) paired with a 4 kWh fixed battery. It delivers a top speed of 79 km/hmaximum torque of 26 Nm, and peak power output of 6.7 kW, ensuring a balance between performance and efficiency. The battery comes with a 3-year or 30,000 km warranty, while standard home charging enables a full charge in approximately eight hours.

For enhanced durability, the motor and battery are IP67 certified, while other electronic components carry an IP65 rating, offering strong protection against water and dust—ideal for Indian riding conditions.

The electric scooter features three riding modes—Eco, Standard, and Power—allowing riders to tailor performance based on their commuting needs. A Reverse Mode aids easy maneuvering in tight spaces, complemented by a telescopic front suspension with hydraulic dampers and a rear coil spring suspension for improved ride comfort.

Safety is addressed through 200 mm front and rear disc brakes supported by a Combi Brake System (CBS), ensuring controlled and stable braking. The EC-06 also comes equipped with a colour LCD display that provides real-time information on speed, battery status, riding modes, and connectivity features. LED headlamps and tail lampsenhance visibility while adding to the scooter’s premium, modern appeal.

Connectivity is further enhanced through the Yamaha Motor Connect R app, offering riders access to real-time vehicle data and smart features for a connected riding experience. With 24.5 litres of under-seat storage, the EC-06 offers ample space for helmets and daily essentials, making it well-suited for urban lifestyles.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Hajime Aota, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group, said, “The EC-06 marks an important step in Yamaha’s journey toward sustainable urban mobility. As India accelerates its transition toward a carbon-neutral future, Yamaha is proud to contribute through high-quality electric innovation. Designed for everyday commuting, the EC-06 balances efficiency with performance, demonstrating how sustainability and riding excitement can coexist.”

Beyond the product launch, Yamaha highlighted its alignment with India’s evolving EV ecosystem, supported by initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and the expansion of charging infrastructure. Through localized development and a strong focus on the Make in India initiative, the company aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower the carbon footprint of the two-wheeler segment.
