Mercedes-Benz Deepens India Commitment with Local Production of Mercedes-Maybach GLS

Mumbai: Mercedes-Benz has reinforced its long-term commitment to India by announcing the local production of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, making India the first market outside the USA to manufacture the ultra-luxury SUV. The strategic move further elevates India’s importance within Mercedes-Benz’s global operations, with the country now featuring among the Top 5 global markets for Mercedes-Maybach for the first time.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS will be locally produced at Mercedes-Benz India’s world-class manufacturing facility in Pune, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s ‘Made in India’ journey and enabling faster deliveries and enhanced accessibility for customers seeking the pinnacle of luxury SUVs.

Strong 2025 Performance Anchors Growth

Mercedes-Benz India closed 2025 with a robust performance, retailing 19,007 new cars and recording its best-ever year in terms of revenue. Growth was driven by rising demand for Top-End Vehicles (TEVs) and luxury electric vehicles, with the TEV portfolio growing 11% year-on-year and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) registering 12% growth.

The high-performance AMG portfolio surged by 34%, led by strong demand for models such as the AMG G63, AMG CLE53 and AMG GLC43, reflecting the growing aspiration for performance luxury vehicles in India.

Top-End BEVs Drive Luxury EV Adoption

Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle strategy continued to gain traction, with BEVs accounting for 20% of all top-end Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold in India. Notably, 70% of BEVs sold in 2025 were priced between Rs. 1.25 crore and Rs. 3.10 crore, highlighting strong customer preference for premium electric luxury.

High demand for models such as the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, EQS SUV and G580 further reinforced Mercedes-Benz’s leadership in the luxury BEV segment, with the EQS SUV emerging as the brand’s highest-selling luxury EV in India.

Mercedes-Maybach GLS: Ultra-Luxury, Now Made in India

Since its India debut in June 2021, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS has established itself as one of the most aspirational luxury SUVs in the country. Previously sold as a CBU import, the decision to commence local production underscores India’s strategic role and the growing demand for ultra-luxury vehicles.

Local manufacturing will enhance customer access to the Mercedes-Maybach GLS while reaffirming Mercedes-Benz India’s manufacturing excellence and agility in catering to discerning luxury buyers.

Premium Editions and 2026 Product Offensive

Mercedes-Benz kicked off 2026 with the launch of special ‘Celebration Editions’, including the Mercedes-Maybach GLS Celebration Edition priced at Rs. 4.10 crore, and the EQS SUV Celebration Edition, starting at Rs. 1.34 crore (5-seater) and Rs. 1.48 crore (7-seater). These editions commemorate the strong success of both models in India.

Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce 12 new products in India in 2026, including new models, facelifts and next-generation BEVs. Among the highlights will be the debut of the CLA BEV featuring the new MB.OS, reinforcing the brand’s focus on technology and innovation.

MB.CHARGE Public: Unified Charging Ecosystem Launched

Mercedes-Benz India also rolled out ‘MB.CHARGE Public’, one of the world’s largest and most established public charging networks, now accessible in 37 countries. In India, the service provides Mercedes-Benz EV customers access to 9,000+ DC charging points at no additional cost.

Integrated seamlessly via the Mercedes-Benz app and RFID card, MB.CHARGE Public offers real-time charger availability, transparent pricing, seamless digital payments and charging history tracking, creating a truly end-to-end charging ecosystem.

Network Expansion and Customer-Centric Transformation

The company announced plans to add 30 luxury touchpoints in 2026, including entry into three new markets, with franchise partners investing over Rs. 450 crore to enhance the retail network.

Mercedes-Benz India has also streamlined its sales, service and finance operations to create a unified ‘1 Customer Unit’ experience. A key upcoming initiative is ‘Three Clicks to Finance’, a fully digital onboarding and financing solution designed to deliver faster approvals, improved compliance and a seamless luxury ownership journey.

Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said the company’s best-ever revenue performance in 2025 was driven by a strong focus on value over volume, high product substance and customer-centric experiences. He added that local production of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS reflects Mercedes-Benz’s deep confidence in the Indian market and its growing base of top-end luxury customers.
