Tata Sierra Sets New National Fuel Efficiency Record with 29.9 kmpl, Enters India Book of Records
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) has marked a major milestone as its newest model, the Tata Sierra, has officially entered the India Book of Records for achieving the maximum fuel efficiency in 12 hours. During a certified endurance run at NATRAX, Indore, the Sierra delivered an outstanding 29.9 kmpl, surpassing the previous national benchmark and reinforcing Tata Motors’ engineering excellence.
The record-setting run was conducted by the Pixel Motion team, who drove the 1.5L Hyperion-powered Sierra continuously from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on November 30, 2025, pausing only briefly for driver changes. The achievement was validated and certified the same day.
Hyperion Engine Delivers Benchmark Efficiency
At the core of this accomplishment is Tata Motors’ all-new 1.5L Hyperion petrol engine, designed to maximise efficiency while maintaining refinement, performance, and drivability. Featuring an advanced combustion system, a torque-rich power band, and friction-optimised engineering, the Hyperion engine ensured stable, consistent performance throughout the 12-hour endurance run.
The achievement highlights the capability and technological advancement of the Hyperion powertrain, positioning it as one of the most efficient petrol engines in its segment.
Tata Motors Celebrates a Proud Milestone
Speaking about the record, Mr. Mohan Savarkar, Chief Product Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said:
“Setting a national efficiency record so early in the Sierra’s journey is a proud moment for us. The Hyperion engine platform was built to push the boundaries of what petrol powertrains can achieve, and this milestone validates that effort. It strengthens the Sierra’s value proposition for customers and underlines TMPV’s commitment to bringing advanced, efficient and future-ready technologies to the market.”
Parallel Performance Run Demonstrates Sierra’s Capability
In a parallel high-speed test at NATRAX, Indore, the Tata Sierra also recorded a top speed of 222 km/h under specified and controlled conditions, highlighting the performance potential of the Hyperion powertrain.
Safety First: Manufacturer Advisory
TMPV emphasised that both tests were conducted by trained experts under controlled conditions and should not be replicated by customers. The company advises all drivers to follow traffic rules and maintain safe driving practices at all times.
Additionally, customer vehicles will be electronically limited to a top speed of 190 km/h, in accordance with Tata Motors’ stringent safety standards.
