Marelli Expands Engineering Footprint in India with New Technical R&D Site in Bangalore
Bangalore, November 7, 2025 — Global automotive technology leader Marelli has inaugurated a new technical research and development (R&D) site in Bangalore, further strengthening its engineering and innovation capabilities in India. The new facility, located in Embassy Manyata Tech Park, was officially opened on November 5, 2025, in the presence of Marelli India and global leadership representatives.
With this expansion, Marelli’s R&D capacity in India rises to 1,200 employees, reinforcing the company’s commitment to developing advanced technologies for both domestic and global automotive markets.
Boosting Innovation Across Key Automotive Technologies
The new Bangalore R&D site will host around 350 engineers and will focus on developing cutting-edge solutions across electronics, automotive lighting, internal combustion and electric propulsion systems. The facility includes labs for optics, hardware testing, and automotive validation, as well as collaborative spaces designed to promote teamwork, innovation, and employee development.
Together with its other R&D centers in Bangalore (opened in 2022) and Gurugram, the new site will support end-to-end development of technologies for infotainment systems, digital clusters, displays, body control modules, engine management systems, and advanced headlamp and rear lamp solutions for Indian customers.
The center will also collaborate closely with Marelli’s global engineering teams and OEM partners to co-develop next-generation technologies, including Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV), zonal architecture, Automated Manual Transmissions (AMT), and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
Commitment to Local Engineering and Testing Excellence
In addition to expanding its R&D presence, Marelli India is investing in in-house testing infrastructure to conduct most design and process validations internally. This approach aims to enhance product reliability and ensure rigorous validation standards for future automotive components and systems.
Speaking on the occasion, Saju Mookken, Country Manager, Marelli India, said:
“The opening of this new technical R&D center underscores our continuous commitment to driving innovation, delivering excellence for our customers, and fostering growth for our employees. This significant expansion reflects our strategic vision for R&D activities in India, allowing us to boost our capacity and speed in developing solutions that truly matter to consumers, locally and globally.”
India: A Strategic Hub for Marelli’s Global Vision
With the launch of the new facility, Marelli now operates 15 production sites and three R&D centers across six cities in India. The expansion underscores India’s importance as a strategic innovation and technology hub for the company, leveraging the country’s vast pool of engineering and software talent.
Marelli aims to strengthen partnerships with Indian OEMs and technology providers to address emerging opportunities in electrification, software-defined mobility, and advanced vehicle systems, aligning with its global mission to create a safer, greener, and better-connected world.
