Ola Electric Becomes First Two-Wheeler EV Manufacturer to Get Government Certification for Rare-Earth-Free Ferrite Motor

Bengaluru, October 6: Ola Electric, Indiaโ€™s largest pure-play electric vehicle company, has achieved a major technological milestone by becoming the first two-wheeler EV manufacturer to receive government certificationfor its in-house developed rare-earth-free ferrite motor. This breakthrough marks a significant step towards reducing Indiaโ€™s dependence on imported rare-earth materials and creating a more sustainable EV ecosystem.

The certification was granted by the Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC), Tamil Nadu, after Ola Electricโ€™s ferrite motor successfully cleared a series of performance verification and motor power tests under AIS 041, as notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

According to Ola, the tests demonstrated that its ferrite motor delivers comparable performance to rare-earth permanent magnet motors, achieving equivalent net power outputs in both 7 kW and 11 kW variants.

Unveiled earlier this year at the companyโ€™s โ€˜Sankalp 2025โ€™ event, the ferrite motor is designed to offer high efficiency, performance, and durability while significantly reducing costs and supply chain risks associated with rare-earth materials.

With this government certification, Ola Electric plans to integrate the ferrite motor across its entire scooter lineup, reinforcing its commitment to affordability, performance, and sustainability for Indian consumers.

โ€œThis certification is a testament to Olaโ€™s engineering innovation and our vision to make India the global epicenter of EV technology,โ€ the company said in a statement.
