e-Vidyut Launches ARAI-Certified Electric Retrofitment Technology in Maharashtra, Pioneering India’s Three-Wheeler EV Revolution

Maharashtra, September 26, 2025: Marking a major milestone in India’s clean mobility transition, e-Vidyut, a Pontaq-backed electric mobility startup, has initiated the commercial rollout of its patented retrofitment technology in Maharashtra. The company is among only two in India to hold Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) certification, and uniquely, the only one certified for both two-stroke and four-stroke three-wheeler autorickshaws.

On the first day of commercialization, e-Vidyut registered 30 autorickshaw conversions, highlighting the strong demand for affordable retrofitment solutions. With over 35 lakh autorickshaws in India aged between 5 to 15 years, this rollout signals the start of a large-scale clean-tech transformation in the country’s three-wheeler sector.

At the center of this innovation is the Electromotion RetroKit, an ARAI-certified, RTO-approved solution that allows drivers to convert their existing petrol or diesel autorickshaws into electric vehicles at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a new EV. The kit delivers a certified range of 132 km per charge, reduces daily fuel expenses by up to 70%, and helps prevent over 1.5 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually per vehicle, making every converted autorickshaw a contributor to India’s green mobility mission.

Commenting on the milestone, Surya Pratap Singh, Co-Founder and CTO of e-Vidyut, said:

“Our commercial rollout in Maharashtra is just the beginning. The overwhelming response validates the urgent need for retrofitment in India’s vast three-wheeler ecosystem. With more than 35 lakh vehicles ready for conversion, we are committed to scaling this solution to make mobility sustainable, affordable, and impactful for every auto driver.”

Backed by cross-border venture capital firm Pontaq, e-Vidyut has benefitted from strategic mentorship and global market access to strengthen its growth.

Lopa Mishra, General Partner at Pontaq, emphasized the larger impact of the initiative:

“Supporting e-Vidyut is about shaping systemic change in India’s urban transport sector. Their retrofitment technology addresses challenges at scale such as financial inclusion for drivers, environmental sustainability, and nationwide EV adoption. This launch is an important step toward a cleaner, smarter transport ecosystem in India.”

Looking ahead, e-Vidyut aims to expand operations to six additional states including Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Gujarat, creating a nationwide retrofitting movement that promises economic savings for drivers, environmental benefits for cities, and a significant boost for India’s clean energy transition.
