Brazil – Marc Marquez delivered a sensational performance to win a nail-biting MotoGP Tissot Sprint race in Brazil, narrowly defeating Fabio Di Giannantonio by just two tenths of a second in a dramatic last-lap showdown.

The MotoGP Sprint saw an intense cat-and-mouse duel between the two riders, with Marquez holding his nerve despite late pressure from Di Giannantonio. The victory marks Marquez’s first Sprint win of the 2026 season and his 16th overall, putting him level with Jorge Martin for the most Sprint wins since the format’s introduction.

Early Drama and Fast Start

Starting from pole, Di Giannantonio made a strong launch to grab the holeshot, while Fabio Quartararo impressed early by climbing into third and briefly challenging Marquez for second. However, Marquez quickly reasserted himself, reclaiming position and setting his sights on the race leader.

Further back, a chaotic start for Fermin Aldeguer saw his bike momentarily lose traction, dropping him down the order as the field surged ahead.

Mid-Race Battles Intensify

As the race settled, Di Giannantonio built a lead of over a second, but Marquez steadily chipped away at the gap. Meanwhile, fierce midfield battles unfolded, with Marco Bezzecchi and Martin trading positions, while rookie Ai Ogura showcased impressive pace by overtaking Quartararo.

Championship leader Pedro Acosta was also in the spotlight, engaging in a heated duel with Francesco Bagnaia over the lower points positions.

With just three laps remaining, Marquez made his decisive move, overtaking Di Giannantonio to take the lead. However, the Italian rider remained glued to the rear wheel of the Ducati, setting up a thrilling final lap.

Despite a slight twitch at the final corner, Marquez held on to cross the line first, sealing a dramatic victory in one of the closest Sprint finishes of the season.

The race also marked a significant moment for Jorge Martin, who secured third place in an emotional return to the podium. It was his first top-three finish since the 2024 Solidarity Grand Prix and his maiden podium with Aprilia Racing, signaling a strong comeback after injury.
