Marco Bezzecchi Smashes Buriram Lap Record as Aprilia Dominate Final Day of 2026 MotoGP Pre-Season Test
Marco Bezzecchi delivered a statement performance on the final day of 2026 MotoGP pre-season testing, setting a blistering 1:28.668 at the Chang International Circuit to record the fastest lap ever at the venue — quicker than the official race weekend benchmark.
The Aprilia Racing star closed out testing in dominant fashion, finishing just 0.097 seconds clear of Ai Ogura, who surged to second for Trackhouse MotoGP Team. Reigning World Champion Marc Marquez completed the top three for Ducati Lenovo Team despite suffering his third crash in two days. The #93 was reported fit after the incident.
Aprilia Sends a Clear Warning Ahead of 2026 Season
Aprilia’s pre-season form has turned heads throughout testing, and Day 2 in Buriram confirmed their status as early favourites. Bezzecchi not only set the all-time lap record but also impressed with race pace, averaging 1:30.454 across a 20-lap long run.
Teammate Jorge Martin finished eighth as he continues his return to full fitness, with both riders trialling multiple rear aero variations. The Italian manufacturer appears to be evaluating flexible aerodynamic strategies for different circuits in 2026.
Trackhouse’s Ai Ogura delivered one of the standout performances of the test, launching a late time attack to go second fastest — likely the third quickest lap ever recorded at Buriram. Teammate Raul Fernandez concluded testing 11th, underlining the competitiveness of all four Aprilia machines heading into the season opener.
Ducati’s Aero Debate Continues as Marquez and Bagnaia Push On
The major storyline of Ducati’s test revolved around the 2024 versus 2025 aero package. Marc Marquez and teammate Francesco Bagnaia were both seen running the older aero specification on the final day.
Marquez topped the morning session but later crashed at Turn 3 during the afternoon, while Bagnaia showed strong pace, improving by eight tenths compared to Day 1 and finishing fourth — narrowly edged by Marquez in third.
Over at BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP, Alex Marquez followed the factory team’s aero direction and ended the test fifth despite a minor fall at Turn 9. Michele Pirro, standing in as test support, finished 22nd.
For Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team, Franco Morbidelli claimed seventh, while Fabio Di Giannantonio overcame early technical issues to secure ninth after a late time attack.
KTM, Honda and Yamaha Close the Gap
Pedro Acosta impressed for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, finishing sixth after significant gains and completing a full Grand Prix simulation. Brad Binder placed 12th, while Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini worked through development programmes for KTM’s evolving aero package.
Honda ended testing inside the top ten, with Joan Mir taking 10th for Honda HRC Castrol and Luca Marini 13th. Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR) and Diogo Moreira (Pro Honda LCR) concluded 14th and 19th respectively.
Yamaha’s new V4-powered YZR-M1 continues to evolve. Jack Miller led their charge for Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP with a 1:29.701 to break into the 1:29 bracket. Fabio Quartararo was just 0.029s slower, while Alex Rinsshowed incremental progress. Toprak Razgatlioglu endured technical setbacks but continues adapting to MotoGP machinery.
All Eyes on the Thailand Grand Prix
With testing complete, attention now turns to the season-opening PT Grand Prix of Thailand. Aprilia leave Buriram with momentum, Ducati remain firmly in contention, and several manufacturers appear closer than ever.
If pre-season form is any indication, the 2026 MotoGP championship promises intense battles from lights out.
