MotoGP Australian Grand Prix to Move to Adelaide Street Circuit from 2027 in Landmark Six-Year Deal
Adelaide, Australia, February 19, 2026: MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, the South Australian Government and the City of Adelaide have announced that the Australian Grand Prix will be staged on a brand-new city centre circuit in Adelaide from 2027.
Under a six-year agreement running from 2027 to 2032 inclusive, the Australian round of MotoGP will take place at the newly unveiled Adelaide Street Circuit, marking the first time in the modern era that a MotoGP Grand Prix will be held on a city-centre street layout built to uncompromised contemporary safety standards.
First-Ever City-Centre MotoGP Grand Prix
The circuit layout was officially revealed on Thursday, 19 February, by MotoGP Chief Sporting Officer Carlos Ezpeleta and South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas. The inaugural Australian GP in Adelaide will be held over three days in November 2027.
The Adelaide Street Circuit will measure approximately 4.195 km in length and feature 18 corners, winding through the city streets. Riders are expected to reach top speeds of more than 340 km/h, delivering high-intensity racing in a unique urban setting.
The track design draws inspiration from the iconic Adelaide Street Circuit, which hosted Formula 1 races between 1985 and 1995. However, significant modifications have been made to meet the rigorous safety standards demanded in modern MotoGP competition, with rider safety identified as the number-one priority in the circuit’s engineering and layout.
A Festival-Style Urban Grand Prix
Organisers believe Adelaide’s city layout, vibrant culture and proven track record of hosting global sporting events make it an ideal venue for a premium, festival-style urban Grand Prix. The move is expected to elevate the fan experience, bringing spectators closer to the action while transforming the event into a major tourism and entertainment showcase for South Australia.
Carlos Ezpeleta described the announcement as a major milestone in the evolution of the championship.
“Bringing MotoGP to Adelaide marks a major milestone in the evolution of our championship. This city has a world-class reputation for hosting major sporting events, and the opportunity to design a purpose-built circuit in the city streets is something truly unique in our sport,” he said.
Ezpeleta added that collaboration with the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) ensured that safety remained uncompromised, with every element of the circuit engineered to meet the highest standards of modern MotoGP.
Major Economic Boost for South Australia
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas hailed the agreement as a major coup for the state, positioning Adelaide as a global destination for world-class events.
“This is a major coup for South Australia and yet more evidence our state has real momentum. We are now competing with the rest of the nation for the world’s best events — and winning,” he said.
Malinauskas emphasised that hosting the world’s first MotoGP race on a purpose-built street circuit would create a unique sporting spectacle, attract interstate and international visitors, generate economic activity, and support local jobs.
With MotoGP experiencing record global growth, Adelaide is set to become a key part of the championship’s expansion strategy in Australia.
