FADA Reports 26% Growth in Electric Two-Wheeler Retail, EV Passenger Vehicle Sales Jump 54% in January 2026
New Delhi, February 2026: Electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India continued its upward trajectory in January 2026, with electric two-wheeler (2W) retail sales rising 26% month-on-month and electric passenger vehicle (PV) sales surging nearly 55% year-on-year, according to the latest data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
The data, collated in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and based on 1,403 out of 1,462 RTOs (excluding Telangana), highlights strong growth momentum across both electric two-wheelers and electric cars.
Electric Two-Wheeler Retail Sales Cross 1.22 Lakh Units
Electric two-wheeler retail sales stood at 1,22,812 units in January 2026, compared to 97,399 units in December 2025 and 98,427 units in January 2025.

- TVS Motor Company:ย 34,558 units (+38% MoM, +43.8% YoY)
- Bajaj Auto:ย 25,598 units (+36% MoM, +19.2% YoY)
- Ather Energy:ย 21,999 units (+28.9% MoM, +67.9% YoY)
- Hero MotoCorp:ย 13,302 units (+24.2% MoM, +718% YoY)
- Ola Electric:ย 7,516 units (-16.6% MoM, -69.2% YoY)
Other notable performers included Greaves Electric Mobility, River Mobility, BGauss Auto, and E-Sprinto Green Energy, with several players posting strong double-digit growth.
TVS Motor retained its leadership position, while Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy recorded robust gains. Hero MotoCorp registered exceptional year-on-year growth, albeit on a lower base. Ola Electric saw a decline in both monthly and annual sales.
Electric Passenger Vehicle Retail Sales Grow 54.75% YoY
Electric passenger vehicle retail sales reached 18,470 units in January 2026, compared to 14,944 units in December 2025 and 11,935 units in January 2025.

- Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles:ย 8,007 units (+23.9% MoM, +50.7% YoY)
- JSW MG Motor India:ย 4,703 units (+32.1% MoM, +3.8% YoY)
- Mahindra & Mahindra:ย 3,668 units (+18.9% MoM, +395.7% YoY)
Other OEMs included VinFast, Hyundai, BMW, Kia, BYD, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Tesla India.
Mahindra recorded one of the sharpest year-on-year growth rates among established players, while Tata Motors continued to dominate the electric passenger vehicle segment with a significant market share.
EV Market Momentum Continues
The data reflects sustained consumer interest in electric mobility, supported by improving charging infrastructure, expanding model portfolios, and greater affordability across segments.
While electric two-wheelers continue to drive volumes in Indiaโs EV ecosystem, electric passenger vehicles are witnessing faster percentage growth, indicating increasing mainstream acceptance of electric cars.
FADA noted that the retail vehicle data excludes figures from Telangana (TS) and is based on registrations recorded up to February 7, 2026.
