Rahil Pillarisetty, PM Soorya Lead Champions’ Roll at MRF MMSC Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship Finale
Chennai: Hyderabad’s Rahil Pillarisetty (RACR Castrol Power1) capped off a stellar season with a commanding double victory to clinch the Pro-Stock 301-400cc Open title on the concluding day of the MRF MMSC fmsci Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship at the Madras International Circuit (MIC) on Sunday.
Already crowned champion after Race-1, the 28-year-old Rahil delivered another flawless performance to seal his first national title in eight years, finishing the season with an impressive seven wins and three podium finishes from 10 races. In Sunday’s race, he fought off strong challenges from Petronas TVS Racing teenagers Chiranth Vishwanath (Bengaluru) and Rakshith Dave (Chennai), who finished second and third respectively, while Pune’s Sarthak Chavan retired following early contact.
Chennai’s PM Soorya (Chandra LGE Racing) ended a nine-year wait for national glory by securing the Pro-Stock 200cc Open championship. The 32-year-old motorcycle engineer delivered a decisive win in Race-1 and followed it up with a controlled third-place finish in Race-2 to seal his maiden national title. His closest rival, Savion Sabu (Mad Rabbits Racing), retired from the opening race and finished fourth later in the day, effectively ending his title hopes.
“This title is very emotional for me. I lost my mother in April and wish she was here today. Consistency helped me through a tough season,” said an emotional Soorya, who began his racing career in 2016.
Several other riders also celebrated championship success at the season finale. Jagathishree Kumaresan (One Racing) retained her Girls (Stock 165cc) national title, finishing third in the final race and ending the season with six wins and four podiums. “I didn’t push too hard today as I had a comfortable points lead,” said the 21-year-old archaeology graduate.
Hyderabad’s Rajender Beedani (MAI Racing) clinched the Stock 165cc (Novice) championship, while Raj Kumar (Motul Sparks Racing) from Coimbatore claimed his maiden national crown in the SuperSport Intermediate 165cccategory after a decade-long journey marked by injuries and setbacks.
Bengaluru’s Varun Patil (Mad Rabbits Racing) emerged champion in the Stock 301-400cc (Novice) class, despite a late surge from team-mate Jagadeesh Nagaraj, who finished the season with a double race win to take second overall.
In the Petronas TVS One-Make Championship, Chennai’s Mohan Babu sealed the Open (RR 310) title with a seventh-place finish, while Hari Haran R (Coimbatore) clinched the Rookie (RTR 200) championship with a double win over the weekend. Pune’s Sarthak Chavan retained the Electric RTE title, although the final race was cancelled due to persistent drizzle.
Meanwhile, in the Idemitsu Honda India Talent Cup (Honda CB 300F), Chennai’s Solomon R secured the championship with a podium finish in the final race, ending the season with three wins and five podiums.
