Teen Racers Dominate MRF Single-Seaters as Round 3 of Indian National Car Racing Championship 2025 Concludes
Chennai: Teenagers Arjun Chheda and Sai Shiva Makesh Sankaran from Pune, along with Ishaan Madesh of Bengaluru, stole the spotlight with commanding victories in the MRF single-seater categories as the third and penultimate round of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship 2025 concluded at the Madras International Circuit (MIC) on Monday.
Chheda and Madesh Share MRF Formula 2000 Wins
In the MRF Formula 2000 category, Arjun Chheda and reigning National karting champion Ishaan Madesh claimed a race win apiece on the final day. The results helped Chheda maintain his lead in the provisional championship standings, with five wins to his name, just five points ahead of Madesh heading into the season finale later this month at the same venue.
Sai Shiva Sankaran Dominates MRF Formula 1600
Pune’s Sai Shiva Makesh Sankaran was in a class of his own in the MRF Formula 1600, completing a clean sweep of all three races in the round. The 17-year-old now has five victories this season and enjoys a 24-point advantageover Bengaluru’s Arjun S Nair, putting him firmly in control of the title race.
Ritesh Rai Shines in Indian Touring Cars
One of the standout stories of the weekend came from the Indian Touring Cars (ITC) category, where Ritesh Rai of Chennai (Buzzing Hornet Motorsports) secured a double victory. His success followed overnight efforts by Arka Motorsports, whose mechanics worked tirelessly to prepare the cars after Saturday’s setbacks.
Eight-time National rally champion Karna Kadur, making a one-off return to circuit racing after a 20-year hiatus, also made the podium, adding to the drama of the round. In contrast, former National champion Arjun Balu endured a difficult weekend, suffering three retirements due to technical issues.
Championship Battles Heat Up Across Categories
Despite the intense competition, Dhruv Chavan of Lonavla remains the only ITC driver to finish all nine races this season, leading the standings by a narrow margin. In the Super Stock class, Diljith TS of Thrissur extended his winning streak to six consecutive victories, while Sri Lanka’s Kesara Godage continues to top the points table.
Viswas Vijayaraj of Nellore enjoyed a double win in the Indian Junior Touring Cars, while Joel Joseph from Ernakulam emerged as the big mover in Formula LGB 1300, winning both races on Monday to take over the championship lead in both Open and Junior classes.
Saloons See Split Wins
In the MRF Saloons (Toyota Etios) category, Akshay Muralidharan of Coimbatore and Chennai’s Mohammed Arfath shared the race wins. Muralidharan continues to lead the championship standings as the series heads into its final round.
