Thai Grand Prix Secures MotoGP Calendar Spot Until 2031
Long-term deal cements Thailand’s place as a key hub for MotoGP in Southeast Asia
Buriram, Thailand — MotoGP has officially confirmed that the Thai Grand Prix will remain on the calendar through to 2031, following a new five-year extension agreement covering the 2027–2031 seasons. This guarantees fans at least five more Grands Prix at the world-renowned Chang International Circuit in Buriram, solidifying Thailand’s reputation as one of MotoGP’s most vibrant and successful venues.
Since its debut in 2018, the Thai Grand Prix has become a cornerstone of MotoGP’s rapid expansion in Southeast Asia, a region that continues to show immense passion and growth potential for motorcycle racing.
Thai GP: A Catalyst for Sport Tourism and Economic Growth
Dr. Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), highlighted the event’s significance beyond motorsport:
“The Thai GP is more than just a race; it is a strategic tool that drives the economy through sport tourism,” said Dr. Gongsak. “It generates both direct and indirect value across tourism, hotels, transportation, and supply chains. The Thai government’s recent approval of a five-year extension underlines its commitment to this vision.”
He emphasized that the Thai GP enhances Thailand’s global image, attracts international visitors, and contributes to sustainable economic circulation. The SAT aims to position Thailand as a regional motorsport hub, supporting rider development and leveraging soft power to showcase the country’s rich cultural identity to the world.
Buriram: A Fan-Favorite and Global Showcase
Having hosted MotoGP for seven consecutive years, Thailand continues to impress with its blend of warm hospitality, passionate crowds, and the unique fan experience that sets Buriram apart on the world stage. In 2025, the Thai GP will also serve as the season-opening race for the second year in a row, a testament to the event’s world-class organization and appeal.
MotoGP Leadership Praises Thailand’s Commitment
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports (the MotoGP commercial rights holder), praised the Thai Grand Prix as one of the standout events on the global calendar.
“Since we first went to Buriram in 2018, the Thai GP has only grown into a more important – and impressive – event,” said Ezpeleta. “The grandstands are always full, the racing is spectacular, and the fan entertainment creates an incredible weekend atmosphere. Thailand and Southeast Asia are key for MotoGP’s growth, and we’re thrilled to continue our partnership with the Sports Authority of Thailand.”
