Elfyn Evans Poised for First WRC Title as Toyota Heads Home for FORUM8 Rally Japan 2025
Nagoya, Japan – November 6, 2025: Elfyn Evans stands on the brink of a career-defining moment as the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) heads to Asia for the highly anticipated FORUM8 Rally Japan 2025 (November 6–9) — the home event for Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) and the penultimate round of the season.
After Toyota clinched the 2025 WRC Manufacturers’ Championship at the Central European Rally, attention now shifts to the intense intra-team battle for the Drivers’ crown. Evans currently leads Toyota team-mates Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä by 13 points each and could theoretically seal the title this weekend if he outscores both rivals by 23 points.
“It’s not an easy rally with very demanding and twisty stages,” said Evans. “Even when it’s dry, there’s very little margin for error. Rally Japan has a very special atmosphere, especially as it’s the home event for Toyota Gazoo Racing.”
A Challenging Home Rally for Toyota Gazoo Racing
Japan’s narrow, technical asphalt roads through Aichi and Gifu are known for their unpredictability — making Rally Japan one of the most demanding events on the WRC calendar. Evans’ calm consistency and Toyota’s dominant pace this season — with four GR Yaris Rally1 cars regularly inside the top five — make him a strong contender for his maiden world title.
Meanwhile, Ogier and Rovanperä, both previous world champions, will be aiming to keep their hopes alive and push the title battle to the grand finale in Saudi Arabia later this month.
Local Hero Katsuta and Hyundai’s Late Push
Japanese driver Takamoto Katsuta will be one to watch. A podium finisher at Rally Japan in 2022, the Toyota star will look to thrill home fans with another strong performance on familiar mountain stages.
Over at Hyundai Motorsport, Ott Tänak remains mathematically in contention for the drivers’ title, while outgoing champion Thierry Neuville seeks a return to form after a challenging few rallies. Adrien Fourmaux completes Hyundai’s trio in the i20 N Rally1, as M-Sport Ford fields Grégoire Munster and Josh McErlean in Puma Rally1 cars.
The Road to the 2025 WRC Finale
The FORUM8 Rally Japan 2025 features 20 demanding asphalt stages covering over 300 kilometres. Action begins Thursday afternoon with the Kuragaike Park Super Special Stage, before competitors tackle a series of iconic Japanese Tarmac tests across Friday and Saturday. With the championship on the line and treacherous conditions expected, every second could prove decisive.
As Evans chases his first world title and Toyota aims to extend its home dominance, all eyes will be on Nagoya this weekend for what promises to be a thrilling showdown in the 2025 FIA World Rally Championship.
