Honda India Foundation Launches ‘Bharat Safety Program’ in Collaboration with IIT Delhi to Promote Safer Two-Wheeler Mobility
New Delhi, November 5, 2025:
Honda India Foundation (HIF), the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of all Honda group companies in India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) – IIT Delhi Sonipat Innovation Foundation to launch the Bharat Safety Program. This landmark initiative aims to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation focused on enhancing two-wheeler safety and reducing road accidents across India.
Aligned with Honda’s Global Vision 2050 – Zero Traffic Collision, the Bharat Safety Program is a 2.5-year structured accelerator initiative designed to nurture deep-tech startups developing affordable and impactful solutions for safer mobility.
Program Structure and Focus Areas
In the selection and bootcamp phase, 15–20 deep-tech startups will be shortlisted. Following that, during the 24-month incubation phase, five startups will receive dedicated mentorship, access to product development and testing facilities, and exposure to collaborative networks spanning government, industry, and academia.
The key focus areas of the Bharat Safety Program include:
- Over-speeding prevention
- Helmet usage enforcement
- Rider behavior analysis
- Collision prevention technologies
- Night-time visibility enhancement
Leadership and Collaboration
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by senior representatives from Honda India Foundation and IIT Delhi, including Mr. Vinay Dhingra, Trustee, HIF; Shri Rajeev Taneja, Operating Officer, HIF; Shri Prabhu Nagaraj, Operating Officer, Corporate Affairs, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India; Prof. Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean, Corporate Relations, IIT Delhi; Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, Director, AIC IIT Delhi; Mr. Nalin Kohli, Board of Directors, AIC IIT Delhi; Prof. Somnath Baidya Roy, IIT Delhi; and Mr. Tarun Chaturvedi, COO, Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi.
The collaboration with AIC IIT Delhi Sonipat Innovation Foundation—established under NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission—serves as a key enabler of research, innovation, and product development. It brings together startups, investors, corporates, venture capitalists, academia, and policymakers to develop scalable solutions that can make Indian roads safer for two-wheeler riders.
A First-of-Its-Kind Road Safety Accelerator
The Bharat Safety Program is the first HIF-backed accelerator in India dedicated exclusively to road safety and two-wheeler mobility. By combining the technological expertise of IIT Delhi, the innovation ecosystem of AIC, and Honda India Foundation’s commitment to public welfare, the program aims to create a measurable impact on road safety—especially in semi-urban and rural areas where awareness and infrastructure remain limited.
