Marc Márquez to Miss Remainder of 2025 MotoGP Season After Shoulder Surgery

October 23, 2025 | Bologna, Italy — Marc Márquez has officially confirmed that he will not return to racing in 2025 as he continues his recovery from a shoulder injury sustained at the Indonesian Grand Prix in Lombok.

The seven-time MotoGP World Champion was involved in a Lap 1 incident with Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing), which left him with injuries to the coracoid process and ligaments in his right shoulder. Following surgery, the Ducati Lenovo Team and Márquez have decided to prioritize full recovery, ruling him out for the rest of the season — including the Valencia Test.

Full Recovery the Priority

While fans were hopeful for a late-season comeback, Márquez made it clear that returning at 100% fitness is the team’s top goal. The #93 rider has set his sights on returning in 2026, fully prepared to challenge for what would be his eighth MotoGP world title.

“We’ve made the decision not to rush back. The focus is on recovery and coming back stronger next year,” Márquez shared in a statement.

Márquez to Attend Valencia GP as a Spectator

Despite sitting out the final rounds, Márquez confirmed that he will attend the season finale in Valencia — this time as a spectator. The Spanish star plans to support his team and fans during the final Grand Prix weekend of the year.

He also hinted that special celebrations are still to come:

“The celebrations for this championship aren’t over yet. There’s more to come for the fans soon.”

Ducati Lenovo Team Statement

The Ducati Lenovo Team expressed full support for Márquez’s recovery, acknowledging the difficult decision but emphasizing the importance of long-term health over short-term gains.

Team sources confirmed that the focus now shifts to preparing both Márquez and the Desmosedici GP for pre-season testing in 2026.

A Season Cut Short, But Motivation Intact

The injury abruptly ended what had been a promising season for the Spanish superstar, who showed flashes of his trademark speed and aggression on the Ducati. Yet, the six-time premier class champion remains determined to return stronger and reclaim his place at the top of MotoGP.
