Auto Retail September 2025: GST 2.0 Ignites Festive Momentum; Navratri Delivers Record-Breaking 34% Growth

New Delhi, October 7, 2025: India’s automobile retail industry has entered a golden festive phase, powered by the transformative impact of GST 2.0 and buoyant consumer sentiment. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), overall vehicle retail in September 2025 grew by 5.22% year-on-year, with a late-month surge coinciding with the rollout of GST 2.0 and the start of Navratri festivities.

Muted Start, Festive Finish

The month began sluggishly, with the first 21 days marked by subdued activity as buyers awaited clarity on the new GST structure. However, demand skyrocketed post-September 22 as the lower GST rates came into effect alongside the Navratri season, sparking a revival in enquiries and deliveries.

Segment-wise, two-wheelers led the growth with +6.5% YoY, followed by passenger vehicles (PV) at +5.8%tractors (Trac) at +3.6%, and commercial vehicles (CV) at +2.6%. The three-wheeler (3W) and construction equipment (CE) categories declined by 7.2% and 19%, respectively.
Inventory buildup—especially in the PV segment, now at around 60 days—signals strong festive preparedness across dealerships nationwide.

“September 2025 was a month of two halves. The initial weeks were quiet, but GST 2.0 combined with Navratri transformed sentiment overnight,” said Mr. Sai Giridhar, Vice President, FADA. “Dealers are entering October with high optimism, ready for what could be India’s best-ever festive season.”

Navratri 2025: A ‘Bachat Utsav’ Breaks All Records

The highlight of the period was the Navratri 2025 auto retail performance, which witnessed a historic 34% YoY growth — the highest-ever recorded for any festive season in India.

FADA hailed the event as a “Bachat Utsav” — a nationwide celebration of affordability and prosperity unleashed by the GST 2.0 reforms. With record-breaking footfalls and deliveries, dealerships across India experienced “never-seen-before” momentum in sales.

“Navratri 2025 will go down as one of the most memorable chapters in India’s auto retail journey,” said Mr. Giridhar. “It was a true celebration of mobility made possible by visionary policy reform.”

Near-Term Outlook: Festive Euphoria to Peak During Deepawali

Looking ahead, the outlook for October 2025 remains highly optimistic, with the industry expecting all-time high festive sales during Dhanteras and Deepawali.
FADA’s analysis points to a unique alignment of positive factors — above-normal monsoons, a strong kharif harveststable RBI rates, and enhanced purchasing power in both urban and rural markets.

With affordability at its best and OEMs offering aggressive festive schemes and easy financing options, demand for both first-time buyers and upgraders is set to surge.

“India’s auto retail sector stands at the cusp of a golden era,” said Mr. Giridhar. “If supply chains and logistics remain smooth, October could mark the best festive retail season in India’s history.”
