Russell Triumphs in Singapore GP as McLaren Clinches Back-to-Back Constructors’ Titles

Singapore, October 5: Mercedes’ George Russell delivered a flawless performance to win the 2025 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, fending off Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen by five seconds. A third-place finish for Lando Norris and fourth for Oscar Piastri ensured McLaren sealed the FIA Formula One Constructors’ Championship for the second consecutive year, with six races still to go.

Starting from pole position, Russell got the jump on Verstappen into Turn 1 and never looked back, building an early lead as Norris surged from fifth on the grid to third, rubbing wheels with Piastri in a tense opening lap that saw the two McLaren drivers battle for position. Race stewards later confirmed no further action was needed.

By lap 10, Russell had carved a 4.7-second advantage over Verstappen, who was grappling with gearbox downshift issues and radioed his team, “Everything is working against me in this race.” Despite intermittent pressure from the Red Bull driver mid-race, the Mercedes ace remained composed through pit stop cycles and late-race traffic.

A minor lock-up from Verstappen on lap 37 allowed Russell to reassert control, and though Norris briefly closed in on the Dutchman, Verstappen managed to stabilise his pace to finish second. Behind the lead trio, Piastri’s slower pit stop dropped him nine seconds off his teammate, but his P4 finish was enough to clinch the Constructors’ crown for McLaren.

Pretty awesome,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown. “Unbelievable team here and back at the factory. Andrea [Stella] and the leadership team have done an incredible job. It’s such a team effort, and going back-to-back feels amazing.”

Rounding out the top five was Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli, followed by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, though the latter faced a post-race investigation for a track limits infringement. Fernando Alonso secured eighth for Aston Martin, ahead of Oliver Bearman (Haas) and Carlos Sainz, who claimed the final championship point for Williams.
