Fermin Aldeguer Claims Stunning Maiden MotoGP Victory at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia
Mandalika, Indonesia – Rookie sensation Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) delivered a masterclass at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, storming to his first-ever MotoGP victory in dominant fashion. The 19-year-old Spaniard becomes the second-youngest MotoGP race winner, etching his name alongside the sport’s greats after a dramatic race that saw Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) and Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) collide and crash out on the opening lap.
Early Chaos: Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez Collide
The drama began almost immediately at Turn 6 when Bezzecchi, chasing Marquez, went for an ambitious move that ended in disaster. The contact sent both riders tumbling out of the race, marking a heartbreaking early exit for the pole-sitter and the reigning World Champion.
While both riders escaped without major harm, Marquez suffered a right collarbone injury and will return to Europe for medical checks, while Bezzecchi was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Aldeguer Seizes Control After Early Drama
As chaos unfolded behind, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) grabbed the holeshot from Bezzecchi before Aldeguer began his charge. By Lap 7, the Spanish rookie made a decisive move at Turn 10 to take the lead, setting the fastest laps of the race and pulling clear of the chasing pack.
By mid-distance, Aldeguer’s advantage had ballooned to over six seconds, with Acosta, Alex Marquez, and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) locked in a fierce scrap for the remaining podium spots.
Epic Podium Fight Behind the Rookie Star
Behind Aldeguer’s disappearing Gresini Ducati, the fight for second and third was nothing short of spectacular. Acosta, Rins, Alex Marquez, and Binder traded blows in an intense multi-rider battle that lasted until the final laps.
In the closing stages, Acosta reclaimed P2 from Alex Marquez at Turn 10, while Binder’s impressive charge from P15 ended just shy of the podium.
A Dream Debut Win for Aldeguer
With a commanding 8.6-second lead, Aldeguer crossed the finish line to claim a dream debut Grand Prix victory. Acosta’s superb consistency earned him P2, while Alex Marquez completed the podium — strengthening his second place in the championship standings.
