Marco Bezzecchi Stuns with Last-Lap Win Over Fermin Aldeguer in Thrilling Indonesian Tissot Sprint
Mandalika, Indonesia — Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) delivered a sensational comeback victory at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia Tissot Sprint, overtaking rookie sensation Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing) on the very last lap to clinch one of the most dramatic finishes of the season. Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) completed the podium, taking his maiden MotoGP rostrum with a solid P3 finish.
Poor Start for Bezzecchi, Drama for Marc Marquez
The Sprint began in chaotic fashion as Bezzecchi, starting from pole, suffered a poor launch and dropped to P8. Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) briefly led from sixth before running wide, allowing Aldeguer, Fernandez, and Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) through.
At Turn 10, Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) made contact with Alex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP), forcing both riders off line. The reigning World Champion was handed a Long Lap penalty, which he served on Lap 3, falling back to P13 before fighting back through the field.
Aldeguer Takes Charge as Acosta Crashes Out
Up front, Aldeguer looked composed as he built a small gap over Acosta — until the KTM rider crashed out of P2 at Turn 1. That handed Aldeguer a comfortable lead, with Fernandez and a charging Bezzecchi behind.
Bezzecchi, now with clear air, unleashed a series of blistering laps, including a 1:29.638 — the fastest of the Sprint. With three laps to go, he had slashed the gap from 1.9s to just half a second.
Bezzecchi vs Aldeguer: The Battle for Glory
On the final lap, Bezzecchi made his move at Turn 10, diving past Aldeguer despite running slightly wide. The rookie pushed hard through Turn 12, but Bezzecchi held firm to take a stunning last-lap victory, marking his comeback from eighth to first in just 13 laps.
Fernandez crossed the line third, celebrating his first MotoGP podium, while Alex Marquez finished a lonely P4 for Gresini. Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol) rounded out the top five.
Sprint Points and Penalties
A post-race tyre pressure penalty for Marini dropped him out of the points, promoting Marc Marquez to P6 after a determined recovery. Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing) finished P7 and P8, while Miguel Oliveira (Prima Pramac Yamaha) claimed the final point in P9.
Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) endured a tough Sprint, finishing 14th — 29 seconds behind the leader — though Ducati Lenovo still sealed the 2025 MotoGP Teams’ Championship.
Eyes on Grand Prix Sunday
With Bezzecchi’s brilliant fightback setting the tone, the stage is set for a thrilling Grand Prix Sunday in Mandalika. Can the Aprilia star make it a weekend double, or will Aldeguer strike back? Stay tuned — Indonesia promises more fireworks.
