Honda Cars India Achieves 200,000 Export Milestone, Driven by Global Demand for City and Elevate

New Delhi, September 25, 2025 – Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), a leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, today announced that it has achieved a major milestone of 200,000 cumulative vehicle exports from its Indian operations. This achievement underscores Honda’s strong manufacturing capabilities, global quality standards, and commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Expanding Global Footprint

Honda began its export journey in India by catering to neighbouring SAARC countries, South Africa, and SADC regions. The first 50,000 exports were achieved by 2021, followed by another 50,000 units in just 2.5 years with expansion into Left-Hand Drive (LHD) markets such as the Middle East, Mexico, and Turkey through the popular Honda City.

In recent years, exports have grown rapidly, with the next 100,000 units exported within 2 years, fueled by strong demand for the mid-size SUV Honda Elevate (badged as WR-V in Japan) across Japan, South America, and Caribbean nations.

Honda’s Export Leaders: City and Elevate

Together, the Honda City and Honda Elevate have been the primary contributors, accounting for 78% of Honda’s total exports. The remaining 22% includes models such as the Brio, Amaze, Jazz, BR-V, Mobilio, City e:HEV, Accord, and CR-V.

Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, HCIL, said:

“Achieving 200,000 export units fills Honda Cars India with immense pride. This milestone underscores the global recognition of our India-made cars. It also reflects the dedication of our skilled teams and robust manufacturing capabilities. Exports are an integral part of HCIL’s business and revenue strategy, and we remain committed to strengthening this area going forward.”

Export Markets and Global Recognition

Over the years, HCIL has exported vehicles to 33 countries. Among these, Japan accounts for 30% of exports, South Africa and SADC countries 26%, Mexico 19%, and Turkey 16%. The remaining 9% includes the Middle East, SAARC nations, Caribbean, and South America.

This milestone not only highlights HCIL’s role in strengthening Honda’s global supply chain but also reinforces India’s growing importance as a hub for world-class automotive manufacturing and exports.
