Lewis Hamilton Leads Ferrari One-Two in FP2 at 2025 F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Baku, September 19, 2025: Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets in the second practice session (FP2) of the 2025 FIA Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, securing a Ferrari one-two finish ahead of team-mate Charles Leclerc. The seven-time world champion set a benchmark lap of 1:41.293, narrowly eclipsing Leclerc by just 0.074 seconds.

Hamilton’s pace-setting run came after benefitting from a strong tow from Leclerc, showcasing Ferrari’s formidable form around the Baku City Circuit. Speaking after the session, Hamilton described the lap as offering “some good learnings,” hinting at more performance to come heading into qualifying.

It was a difficult outing for McLaren, with Lando Norris crashing at Turn 4 and ending his session early in P10, while Oscar Piastri clipped the barriers at Turn 15, eventually finishing down in 12th.

Mercedes looked competitive as well, with George Russell and rookie Kimi Antonelli placing P3 and P4, respectively, just behind the Ferrari duo. Haas driver Oliver Bearman impressed again by clinching P5, while reigning world champion Max Verstappen settled for P6 in his Red Bull, six-tenths off Hamilton’s pace.
