Pedro Acosta Leads Misano MotoGP Post-Race Test as Yamaha V4 Prototype Joins the Action

Misano, Italy – September 16, 2025 – Just hours after the high drama of the San Marino Grand Prix, MotoGP returned to business with a crucial post-race IRTA test at Misano. The day saw Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) bounce back from Sunday frustration to top the timesheets ahead of Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) and home hero Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing). Meanwhile, Yamaha’s much-anticipated YZR-M1 V4 prototype made its full-squad debut.

KTM: Acosta Sets the Benchmark

After a tough Grand Prix, Pedro Acosta wasted no time in showing KTM’s speed potential, leading most of the afternoon and finishing with a 0.340s advantage over the field. Despite admitting he still wasn’t fully comfortable in fast corners, his pace was close to the sub-90s barrier.

  • Brad Binder improved late to finish 14th.
  • Enea Bastianini (Tech3 KTM) tested setup ideas and finished 12th, one spot ahead of Maverick Viñales, who worked on regaining strength in his recovering shoulder.
  • Test veteran Dani Pedrosa ran a swingarm update and new rear exhaust, ending 21st.

Ducati: Mixed Fortunes with Aero and Electronics

Alex Marquez was Ducati’s top representative, securing second overall while focusing on corner entry and electronics.

  • Fermin Aldeguer impressed with time attacks en route to 10th.
  • Franco Morbidelli (VR46) was strong in fifth, with Fabio Di Giannantonio seventh.
  • Francesco Bagnaia mixed 2024 aero with the 2025 chassis but crashed late at Turn 1, finishing eighth.
  • Marc Marquez, still leading the championship, tested swingarms and placed sixth before calling it an early day.
  • Ducati tester Michele Pirro trialed a radical reduced front aero package and ranked 23rd.

Aprilia: Bezzecchi and Martin Keep Momentum

Fresh from his San Marino Sprint glory, Marco Bezzecchi continued his strong form, finishing third while testing a revised chassis.

  • Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Aprilia) impressed in fourth, consistently inside the top ten.
  • Jorge Martin, the reigning World Champion, worked on ergonomics and mapping, finishing ninth despite a late crash.
  • Ai Ogura sat out due to his Sunday incident.

Honda: Marini Leads Development Work

With Joan Mir sidelined by injury, Luca Marini carried Honda’s flag, trialling an updated chassis and new rear aero on his way to 11th.

  • Johann Zarco (LCR Honda) followed a similar programme, ending 15th.
  • Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda LCR) wrapped up early in 22nd.

Yamaha: V4 Prototype Makes Its Full-Squad Debut

The day’s biggest storyline was Yamaha’s much-anticipated YZR-M1 V4 prototype. For the first time, all Yamaha riders got laps on the new machine.

  • Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha) ran consistent sessions, finishing 18th with a 1’31.598.
  • Álex Rins edged his teammate by 0.027s to take 17th overall.
  • Miguel Oliveira (Prima Pramac Yamaha) was the top Yamaha in 16th, while Jack Miller placed 19th.
While the lap times weren’t headline-grabbing, the riders agreed the new engine concept showed promise, with further development expected in upcoming tests.

Looking Ahead: Motegi Awaits

With testing wrapped up and another record crowd at Misano celebrated, MotoGP shifts focus to the Grand Prix of Japan at Motegi (September 26–28, 2025). All eyes will be on Marc Marquez, who could take a major step toward securing another world crown.
