Augusto Fernández Extends MotoGP Test Rider Role with Yamaha Factory Racing Through 2027

Misano Adriatico, Italy – September 11, 2025 – Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has officially confirmed that Augusto Fernández will continue as the Official MotoGP Test Rider for the Yamaha Factory Racing Test Team, extending his commitment through the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

The 2022 Moto2 World Champion, Fernández has brought invaluable experience to Yamaha’s MotoGP programme since joining the Factory Racing Test Team in 2025. With two seasons in MotoGP (2023–2024) and six years in Moto2 (2017–2022) under his belt, the Spaniard has become a trusted figure in Yamaha’s development strategy.

Since his arrival, Fernández has played a pivotal role in Yamaha’s bike development, working alongside Andrea Dovizioso, Yamaha engineers, and the factory teams. His responsibilities include participating in Official IRTA Tests, private Yamaha tests, and wild-card races, while also being on standby as a replacement rider should either Yamaha MotoGP rider be unable to compete.

Yamaha’s Confidence in Fernández

Paolo Pavesio, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, praised Fernández’s impact:
“Augusto has made a remarkable contribution since joining earlier this year. His competitive sharpness, technical insight, and collaboration with Andrea Dovizioso have been vital to our development programme. He is also central to our ‘Plan V’ and the creation of Yamaha’s new 850cc prototype for 2027 – one of the most ambitious projects in our racing history.”

Fernández on His Renewal

Expressing his excitement, Fernández said:
“I’m super happy to continue with Yamaha for two more years. From the very beginning, I felt at home with the team and the projects we are working on are really important for the future. I’m proud to play my part and will keep giving my best to bring Yamaha back to the top.”

Strengthening Yamaha’s MotoGP Future

By retaining Fernández, Yamaha reinforces its long-term MotoGP development strategy, ensuring continuity as it focuses on technical innovation, rider performance, and the highly anticipated 850cc machine set for 2027. His blend of race experience and testing expertise makes him a cornerstone in Yamaha’s push to regain competitiveness at the highest level of motorcycle racing.
