Alex Marquez Triumphs in Barcelona as Marc’s Winning Streak Ends at MotoGP Catalonia

Barcelona, September 7, 2025 – Redemption came sweetly for Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) at the Monster Energy Grand Prix of Catalonia, as he clinched a stunning victory on home soil. Just 24 hours after Sprint heartbreak, the Spaniard held off his brother Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) in a thrilling duel to secure his second career MotoGP win, ending Marc’s unbeaten Sunday run.

The win not only delivered a full 25-point haul for Alex but also ensured that the MotoGP World Championship battle rolls on to at least the Japanese GP. Marc settled for a hard-fought P2, while Enea Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech3) celebrated his maiden Sunday podium with KTM in P3.

Marquez vs Marquez Lights Up Catalonia

Starting from P3, Marc Marquez surged into an early lead ahead of polesitter Alex, with Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) giving chase. Chaos unfolded on Lap 2 when Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio crashed out at Turn 1, ending their podium hopes.

By Lap 4, Alex Marquez made a decisive move at Turn 1 to snatch the lead from Marc. From there, the race became a family showdown. Despite Marc’s relentless pressure, Alex kept his composure, controlling the pace in the final laps to cross the line 1.7s clear of his brother.

Bastianini Shines, Acosta Fades

Behind the Marquez brothers, Enea Bastianini showed blistering speed, passing Acosta on Lap 10 to secure P3 – marking a breakthrough first Grand Prix podium with KTM. Acosta, who looked strong early, struggled with tyre grip in the closing stages but still salvaged P4.

Quartararo produced one of his best rides of the season to take P5, while MotoGP rookie Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) impressed with a last-lap charge to P6. Defending champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) mounted a strong recovery from P22 on the grid to finish P7.
