Colton Herta Joins Cadillac Formula 1® Team as Test Driver Ahead of 2026 Debut

Fishers, Indiana / Silverstone, UK – September 3, 2025 – The Cadillac Formula 1® Team has officially announced that nine-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES race winner Colton Herta will join the team as a Test Driver as it prepares for its debut on the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship grid.

For the 25-year-old American, this marks a return to European racing, a decade after his initial stint across the Atlantic. Between 2015 and 2016, Herta competed in the Euroformula Open Championship and British F3, where he secured multiple victories, podiums, and pole positions before returning to the U.S. in 2017.

Colton Herta’s Racing Achievements

  • Nine INDYCAR victories and 16 pole positions in 116 starts
  • Youngest driver to win an INDYCAR SERIES race and pole (2019, Circuit of the Americas)
  • IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship wins, including:
    • Rolex 24 at Daytona (2019, 2022)
    • 12 Hours of Sebring overall victory (2024)
  • Over 1,000 laps led across his INDYCAR career

Herta will support the team in its development program, providing feedback, simulator work, and contributing to the foundation of Cadillac’s first F1 entry under TWG Motorsports.

This announcement follows Cadillac F1’s confirmation last month that Valtteri Bottas and Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez will form the team’s race driver line-up for its historic debut season in 2026.

Team Principal Graeme Lowdon’s Statement

Having an American driver join an American Formula 1 team is a hugely significant moment, not only for our team, but for American motorsport as a whole.”

Building Momentum for 2026
