Marc Marquez Extends Unbeaten Run With Sprint Victory at Austrian GP
The unstoppable Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) made it 11 wins in a row in 2025 as he claimed victory in the Tissot Sprint at the BWIN Grand Prix of Austria. Starting from the second row, the Championship leader was made to work hard by his younger brother Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP), but the #93 once again prevailed, crossing the line just under two seconds ahead. Rising star Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) thrilled the home crowd with another strong performance to secure third.
Bagnaia’s Nightmare Start
The Sprint began in dramatic fashion as reigning Champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) suffered a disastrous launch off the line. A massive rear tyre spin saw Bagnaia and Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) lose crucial time from P3 and P6 respectively. That opened the door for Alex Marquez to seize the early lead, with Marc Marquez quickly latching onto his brother’s tail.
Meanwhile, Pedro Acosta surged from Row 3 to P2 at the start of Lap 2, overtaking Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing). But the KTM rookie later made a small mistake at Turn 4, losing ground on the leading brothers.
Alex vs. Marc: The Battle for Sprint Glory
For much of the Sprint, Alex Marquez held firm at the front, keeping Marc just behind him by half a second. However, with five laps remaining, Marc executed a decisive move at Turn 3, pulling away with his trademark precision. Despite a late track limits warning, the eight-time World Champion made no errors and extended his unbeaten 2025 streak to 11 consecutive wins.
Alex Marquez had to settle for second, while Pedro Acosta clinched his third straight Sprint podium, finishing ahead of Bezzecchi.
