Ampere Nexus Becomes First-Ever Electric Scooter to Conquer Shipki La Pass at 13,200 ft on Independence Day

Ampere Nexus, the flagship electric scooter from Greaves Electric Mobility, has made history by becoming the first-ever electric 2-wheeler to reach Shipki La Pass, situated at an altitude of 13,200 ft — just 200 metres from the Line of Control (LOC).

This milestone ride was part of the Border Tourism Initiative of the Indian Army, led by Tripeak Brigade under the aegis of Surya Command, showcasing that India’s EV revolution can power through not just urban roads but also the nation’s most remote and challenging terrains.

Flagged off from Chandigarh on August 9, 2025, the three-day expedition covered over 425 km of winding mountain roads, steep gradients, and rugged terrains, passing through Shimla, Reckong Peo, and Pooh via the scenic Kinnaur Valley before the final climb to Shipki La Pass. Two Ampere Nexus scooters completed the journey, proving their endurance, performance, and adaptability in extreme conditions.

Since its launch in 2024 — marked by the Kashmir-to-Kanyakumari ride — the Ampere Nexus has set multiple endurance records. This latest achievement further reinforces its engineering promise to Outperform, Outlast, and Outshine in every environment.

Upon arrival, the riders were warmly welcomed by Indian Army jawans, and a flag-hoisting ceremony was held to celebrate India’s 79th Independence Day. The feat was formally recognised by the India Book of Records as the “First Electric 2-Wheeler to Reach Shipki La Pass,” acknowledging its ease of charging and ability to operate in extreme high-altitude conditions.

Speaking on the achievement, Mr. Vikas Singh, Managing Director of Greaves Electric Mobility, said:

“From conquering Kashmir-to-Kanyakumari to now scaling one of the nation’s highest passes, the Ampere Nexus has consistently proven what it was designed for — to Outperform, Outlast, and Outshine. This Shipki La achievement is far more than a record — it’s proof that India’s EV technology is ready to go the distance, from the heart of our cities to the very edge of our borders. Amplifying the Indian Army’s Border Tourism initiative makes this feat even more meaningful.”

This achievement aligns with Greaves Electric Mobility’s mission to democratise smart and sustainable mobility across India, proving that electric vehicles are no longer confined to cities but can reach even the country’s farthest frontiers.
